Out of 18 week total (one of which only had 2 performances, but to be conservative I'm counting it as a full week)
Total gross: $13,420,946
Average weekly gross: $745,608
Capitalization at $4MM (according to this article, which we might take with a grain of salt)
With that capitalization, in order for them to have NOT recouped, the weekly running cost would have had to be about $523,000 or higher, which seems very unlikely for a play like this.
Even if their running cost was around $400,000 (which still seems high), they still would have recouped and netted close to $2MM in profit.
Does that all check out? Or am I missing something big? It seems odd that they wouldn't have announced it if they recouped.
BTW, on a related note:
Back when Driver's casting was rumored, I had a debate with someone on this board (I honestly don't remember who, or in what thread) about whether or not Adam Driver was a bankable star. I argued that he was, and it looks like I was probably right. Though granted, we don't know what percentage of people came to see him vs. Keri Russell.
Oh, I think Adam Driver was the draw and, coming off an Oscar nomination, I think that piqued people's interest (it did mine). Plus, he was so damned good I think word got around. I forget where I read it a few weeks ago (might have been the NYT), but an article on the past season noted that 'Burn This' was one of the shows that was close to recouping.
