Buying tickets the day of the show (Evita and Once)
Buying tickets the day of the show (Evita and Once)#1
Posted: 6/3/12 at 9:58pmI will be coming into the city the last week of June (probably on June 26th). I really want to see Evita and Once. The problem is I always fly standby, so I am hesitant to buy tickets in advance. Usually I buy tickets for one of the later days of my trip, but this year I will probably only be in the city for one (maybe 2) days. What are the chances of being able to go to the box office and get a ticket on the day of or the day before the show? I know it's probably hard to say, but I don't know if anyone has maybe done this for either of these two shows. I would want to see the Evita 2pm show on Wednesday since I really want to see Elena Roger. I know if Once wins the Tony, I should bite the bullet and buy in advance as my trip gets closer. Any advice or stories from a similar experience would be greatly appreciated! Oh, and I am not picky about seating or/price. I would just want a full view.

Posted: 6/4/12 at 12:33amI did TKTS for Once today, and though my seat was listed as "obstructed view," the only thing that was "obstructed" was that I couldn't see the band members on my side while they were playing (but not in a scene)—which isn't any different from a pit orchestra, anyways! But I seriously don't think my experience of the play suffered at all from being in an "obstructed view" seat. Paying the extra $40 to do TKTS instead of rush was worth it for me, especially as I got to sleep twice as long as I would have had I rushed—and then, I might not have even gotten a ticket! And, for what it's worth, I had my TKTS ticket before the Jacobs box office had even opened.

Posted: 6/4/12 at 7:26amIf there aren't any Evita seats left, they're doing SRO, which is behind the last row of the Mezz. Although it's pretty far back, you still have quite a good view of the stage. And you'll be glad to only put out 30 bucks for it...

Just check Ticketmaster frequently the day before and once you get into town to get an idea of what's available. If your funds are limited then you may have to deal with SRO (which is way too far away IMO for this show) or a TKTS ticket that may be slightly obstructed view; then again you may get lucky with rush. TKTS did recently have Evita for both Wednesday matinee and evening at 40% and they were nice seats in the mezz. Don't know if that will be the same once you're here, though.
Hope you finally get to see Ms. Rrrrrroyer! As pronounced by the $600 million dollar woman herself, Susana Gimenez:
Elena Rrrrrrroyer!
