In my English class, we read the Scarlet Letter and one of our project options is to make a CD soundtrack for the book. So far I have two songs:
Somebody's Eyes from Footloose- because the people of the Purtian community are always watching for sin
Home from Piece- because of the close relationship between Hester and Pearl.
I need a song about guilt preferably sung by a man because it will be used for Dimmesdale battling his guilt over to tell the truth or not.
Any suggestions?

For Dimmesdale, how about HELLFIRE from THE HUNCHBACK FROM NOTRE DAME (Menken/Schwartz)?

Keeping with my previous suggestion of a JRB song....
"On the Deck of a Spanish Sailing Ship" from Songs for a New World. Not so much guilt as repentance, but still may work.
Edit: Also, "Children of Eden" from the show of the same name. Although it's a woman singing...I'm not sure how strict your "preferably a man" requirement is....

Posted: 2/26/06 at 1:12amThis probably doesn't apply to The Scarlet Letter, but the reprise of "The Beauty Is" from The Light in the Piazza is about Margaret's guilt over not being there when Clara was kicked by the horse.
