Bye Bye Birdie Cast for Encores!

Now, I know that Encores! has possibly the best reputation for casting in New York City or in the theatre world itself, but who do you think would do well in the show? I am really anticipating this!

So far I believe:
Roger Bart (Albert Peterson)
Marcia Lewis (Mae Peterson)
Joel Vig (Mr. McAfree)

But who for Rosie! Is there a singer/dancer/comedienne who seems right for this role and who can match Chita Rivera? I know she;s out there and probably pretty obvious, but WHO?

Since BYE BYE BIRDIE will be presented while WILL AND GRACE is on hiatus, there's a very good chance that Eric McCormack will be Albert.

Roger Bart is an amazing casting choice. You can hardly ever go wrong with him in any show, to be honest with you. One of the Mimis from Rent would be a nice Rosie. Maybe Lorraine Velez?

Marcia Lewis would be a riot!

As Kim, I nominate Jessica Grove. Anyone else agree?

Dollypop, are you speaking from speculation or fact?

Although I think Eric McCormick would be great for Albert, I hope they get a current musical theatre star to fit the bill. Like Roger Bart!

As for Rosie, she has to have extreme warmth, a great voice, an energetic and wonderful dancer, and have splendid comic timing to boot! Harder role to cast than you would think, but I am sure that Encores! will come up with someone who more than fits the bill!

daphne rubin vega would be a great rosie. how about kerry butler as kim and mariss j, winkor as her best friend ursala. they have already played best friends.

Daphne Rubin Vega would be a horrible Rosie. Warmth? Great Voice? Comedic Timing? Wow would she be horrible...It really would be hard to cast Rosie. I can't imagine anyone that could fill Chita's shoes.

I agree...I could never see her doing that part...not to say that shes not talented...but Rosie needs to be sweet

She did, after all, want to be the next Chita Rivera (she's also played Rosie before -- I know it won't happen... just throwing it out there for ****s and giggles)

I refuse to belive that Catheine Zeta-Jones could not be talked into this...

the role would fit her like a glove...

What is it a week of rehersals and 4 days of performances...but for two weeks she would own this town and that show would be the hottest thing to hit since HAIRSPRAY.... Updated On: 1/22/04 at 08:22 AM

I don't think Encores has the money to pay CZ-J. Actors do not get paid star salaries when they work for Encores.

Catherine Zeta Jones is perfect! But her and Roger Bart wouldn't make a good couple. Although Bart is good casting, the role would be better off going to someone a little bit older. Broderick could do it- it's kind of similar to his "Producers" role, there's not a lot of singing, and he would bring in the audiences. With him AND Zeta-Jones in the same show, it'll be a complete sell-out.

I don't like Kerry Butler for Kim. But I love the thought of Winokur as Ursula!

Matt Morrison or Matt Cavenaugh would both be amazing Conrads. I'd also LOVE to see John Lovett, I believe his name is, as Mr. Macafee. Or you could bring George Wendt back to reprise his role from the movie remake.
