I've never been a fan of the original show. I adore the 1963 film version, and hate the television version. The Tommy Tune production was fun, but still seemed flat to me, when compared to those glorious film orchestrations by Johnny Green, and some of the finest choreography, ever, by Onna White.

I'd rather see a revival of BIRDIE than another darn revival of GREASE anyday!

Oh my goodness, why does it need to be updated at all?

Having musical-directed the show twice, I have seen audiences flock to the theatres to see the show, despite the lack of big-name stars or updated material.

Susan Stroman had a critical success with "The Music Man" on Broadway, without any updates. Hal Prince "reworked" "Show Boat" and it was also a critical success! The Des McAnuff revival of "How To Succeed" was thoroughly entertaining...

How can anyone say that "Bye Bye Birdie" cannot ever be revived? I don't get it! What's wrong with nostalgia?

I agree with MusicalMan76! The Pajama Game, H2$, Guys and Dolls, The Music Man, and Show Boat weren't modernized! And God knows Grease won't be!

Saying Bye Bye Birdie needs to be updated is like saying they should place The Sound of Music in the year 2006!

The show takes place in the 50s. YOU CAN'T CHANGE THAT!!!!!!!!

I love the film.

And I love that the film takes place when they made it '61-'62 and not the 50's...just because the 50's "look" gets rather tired especially on stage. I dont want to see poodle skirts... gross.

I agree with the VolleyBaller's thoughts. The show IS hilarious. I played Harry McAfee in a good college production which had a six week rehearsal period and the lines kept breaking us up for the entire time. This was in 1962. But
I also saw the Tommy Tune touring show with Ann Reinking as Rosie and an hysterically funny Marilyn Cooper as Albert's mother Mae in the 1990's at Philadelphia's elegant Forrest Theatre. Strouse & Adams wrote a good new song titled "Take a Giant Step" for Tommy Tune to sing and dance. The show was wonderful in all aspects. Supposedly Tune didn't want to bring it to NYC because it was a revival and not an original show. I don't quite get the logic of that.I wish he could be persuaded to change his mind.
