CAP-21 High School Summer Program vs. NYU's CAP-21 Summer Institute

Hi...DESPERATELY seeking info!

I got accepted into both CAP-21's Summer Musical Theater Program for high schoolers and NYU's CAP-21 Summer Musical Theater Program...does anyone know the difference between the two? Is one more prestigious? better training? better atmosphere? looks better on college applications (not as important)? Information and opinions would be GREATLY appreciated!

I think you have more freedom with the Summer Institute. No one babysits you. With H.S. Summer Program, you get R.A.s and they're your babysitter outside of class. You can't do anything without them knowing and they take you everywhere. I gotta warn you though. CAP 21 Musical Theater Program. Get ready for some drama. Those are the most bitchy, arrogant, dramatic kids I came across. I was in the Musical Theater Writing program and let's just say, we stayed away from them. A few of them were cool, but they always acted better than anyone else. It does look good on college apps. It's college credit, but it'll count as an elective. I wouldn't count it as a ticket into NYU though. Only 1 out of the 9 students in my group got into NYU and that was because his SAT score was 1500. It's all about the SAT score with NYU.

that sucks about the HS program because the professional kids were amazing. They were all supportive and it made for a fantastic time.

Even better...Oklahoma City University's Summer Musical Theater workshop. Two sessions..one for 10-13 yr olds and one for 13 to 17 yr olds.

Why not learn from the pros?

I did the CAP21 program through NYU and thought it was amazing. Granted, you will get babied a bit more in the NYU program but its not a big deal at all. As far as the training goes, both programs use almost the exact same teachers - one has classes at the Tisch Building and one at the CAP21 building. Since you spend so much time with the kids in hte NYU program due to lack of freedom, a sort of family is built and its quite wonderful. Other perks of the NYU program: you get college credit through NYU (and a good deal of the kids from the CAP21 summer NYU program ended up getting into CAP21...myself included)
