I ususally do not come to this site often, but I was very surprised that no one mentiond the passing of Carol Bruce.

Carol Bruce had a very strange career. On opening night in Louisiana Purchase, she created quite a sensation, and seemed on the point of a great career on the musical comedy stage. Hell, on opening night Irving Berlin and Eddie Cantor came on with bouquets for her, much to the displeasure of Zorina.

Bruce had everything: looks, talent, a great voice, femininity, charm, poise, a sense of humor. I never knew what happened. She made a few more Broadway appearances, tv, and then disappeared. I am always surprised that somgwriters did not come up with vehicles for her capitalizing on her beauty and talent. It seems such a waste.

It is also surprisong that the women of my generation who possessed such talent--and femininity--Joy Hodges, Muriel Angelus, Marcy Westcott, Dors Carson, Gertrude Niessen, Carol Bruce, Leila Ernst, Maureen Cannon, Patricia Morison, Allyn Ann McLerie, Betty Garrett, Sono Osato, Betty Jane Watson, hell even Marta Eggerth--never had big careers. And it seems very strange--and I'm sure I'll receive flak and contradictions--that the two biggest stars, Ethel Merman and Mary Martin, had no sex appeal, lacked feminity, many times came over like bulldozers and, to me anyway, lacked the talents of the aforementioned.

But what does an 88 year old broad know?

What does an 88 yr old broad know- PLENTY!!
I was unaware Carol Bruce had passed- Guess there was not a lot about it in the local papers etc.
An interesting comment re the ladies u mentioned- possibly because so many were too |unique" they were't able to transit to other role or maybe it was just PR. Merman & Martin were masters of that skill.
PS Hope this means u will occ consider posting again on the boards. Your presence has been much missed. Hope u are well & happy.
