When one year comes to the end, I always enjoy doing my “best of” lists. So it’s time to take a quick tour through the cast recordings, plus a few soundtracks, that were released during 2014 and to reveal my 10 favorite ones, with the fabulous YANK! at top of the list.

Thanks for the list! I found it useful, I'm gonna look into YANK!
I was sorry you didn't like Bridges, I thought it was the best recording of the year

Wow, interesting list, which I don't agree with much.
I won't post mine, but I will agree with you on the Soundtrack of "'Lil Abner" It's a score I've always loved, but the jazzy arrangements of every song on that Soundtrack trump the Original Broadway Cast, which nearly never happens.
Interesting read, sad to see some of my favorite recordings of the year not being on your list of everything you listened to though. Among them; Hedwig and The Angry Inch, Love's Labor Lost and Venice

fyeahmaria, I gave HEDWIG, LOVE'S and VENICE a try, but it's not my kind of music and I didn't even listen to the all scores; I'm afraid I'm too old fashion. Sorry. Curiously I remembering seeing the HEDWIG movie adaptation and enjoying, but not the music.

gypsy101, like you many people, including the Tony voters, love the BRIDGES score. I believe BRIDGES may work beautifully on stage (I didn't saw, I live to far away), but unfortunately the score, although melodious, didn't conquered me and I gave it more than a few listenings.
It's funny that you say that, Jorge, because I also live too far away to have seen Bridges, and it's still my favorite cast recording of 2014. To each his own, I suppose.

Well, I appreciate that the OP very clearly states these are his own favorites, not making some kind of objective evaluation of worth.
Interesting that someone who's "old-fashioned" ended up enjoying the IF/THEN cast recording, though. :)

I also live in the inter lands of the PAcific northwest but UBDOUBTLY my favorite and most listened to OBC Recording is Browns Bridges of Madison County. No question of why he took home 2 Tony's last June.

Delighted to see the nod for Roberta. Quite an achievement!
Love a lot of this list. Great selection, must listen to the ones I have left out!

Pootie2, you can't imagine my surprise when I caught me going back to IF/THEN over and over. Maybe it's because the songs are very melodious and emotional...

TheBoyFromNC, what I meant it wouldn't be the first time that I don't enjoy the cast recording and have a great time seeing the show, it happened with RENT and ASSASSINS. On the other hand, MACK & MABEL is one of my all time favourite scores, but I was very disappointed when I saw the show on stage.
