I know it’s a little bit late for this, but I finally had time to do my list of the best recordings released in 2016 and, just for fun, I also decide to create the “Jorge’s Place Awards”.
Before crucifying me for my choices, keep in mind that I love the traditional Broadway sound and I have strong difficulties to enjoy other music styles. So, everything that sounds like rock, country or folk hardly have a chance to catch my narrow-minded ears.

So interesting...I myself wrote a post today about NEW shows for THIS year that are worth taking a listen to. I'll be sure to check out your recap later.
The only thing that really seems odd to me is naming two CD re-releases as Best Cast Recordings of 2016. They weren't recorded in 2016 or even released on CD for the first time in 2016. They just fell out of print for a while and are now offered to be burned on demand on a CD-R. Seems like an Honorable Mention at best.
Ruthless released a cast album? I find that surprising. She Loves Me definitely belongs on a list like this, and I'm thrilled to see some love for Hunchback. (Say what you will about that production's direction, but its cast was spot-on.) I definitely see what you mean about preferring a "traditional sound," although Hairspray Live is here and that's kind of rock n'roll.

You're right, I shouldn't have included re-releases on my list. So I just changed my list and I created a few more "awards", including one for Best Reissue.
Thanks for your comments.

For me HAIRSPRAY isn't what I call a rock score, it has a 50/60s beat that I enjoy. For me a rock score is the likes of LAZARUS, AMERICAN PSYCHO or even WAITRESS.
