I've never been privy to it, but from what I've heard (not to mention seen) I believe there just might be one.
Are you serious? I always thought, that people were joking. I mean, if one doesn't like someone, one makes a joke that that person only got the job cause of the casting couch.

It happens. Not as often as before, but its there.
There's also coke dealer couch, trainer couch, please-marry-my-client-so-the-world-won't-think/find out-he's-gay couch and a host of other types of couches.
Everybody's got furniture.
lol--yes, it exists. I have not been on it, but I have heard stories from friends.
Have you ever heard the names Madonna,Mariah Carey,or Jennifer Lopez? On a much a smaller scale...Ashanti? The casting couch is all there is, here, there and everywhere. I see it firsthand every day. Anyone who disagrees with me is delusional.
I love that the only people you're mentioning are women.
Well, then to be fair, the only names I would be able to mention (but won't) on Broadway would be men. Is that better?
"Is that better?" Is that rhetorical?
But why, though? Why be rhetorical? Why can't you include those in the theater who alledgedly used the casting couch to get where they are?
Because it's a smaller community?
Because it would be slander if you don't know this for a fact?

hmm... mostly, becuase in MY experience, theatr peop-le aren't as bitchy to one other as film/TV people. Bithciness is alive and well to be sure, but not as much..
The casting couch most definately is alive and well.
Um no, Fair. There was a reason I used names that are extremely well-known in my original post. For irate posters like yourself to not get on my case with the "who? who?" crap. I'm not in the business of outing folks that people actually know. The Madonna's of the world are a 'bit' out of reach for the noisemakers on this board. So get over it, I ain't naming names and like I said before, if you don't believe it to be true, you're living under a rock. Why are YOU so personally offended, anyway? That's the better question. I didn't start this thread.
No one is debating whether or not the couch exists. I am asking why include the names of only women in a different industry and not men. The answer is not because one industry is "bitchier" than another.
They were the biggest examples I could think of off the top of my head. I don't sit here with flash cards listing what would be an appropriate answer for a BWW post so as to not offend you Fair. Better I should have named obscure, struggling Broadway actors that no one knows instead, just so I didn't mention women?
Who's irate? I'm not yelling. I asked you a question.
You brought up the fact that the casting couch is prominent in the Bway community amongst men.
My question is to YOU sweetheart, why are YOU so personally offended? If I didn't think the couch existed I wouldn't have found it curious that you mentioned only women. I think you're being a tad bit over the top and irrational. But what else is new.
Yes, of course, I've forgotten how often i've been called 'over the top" and "irrational" on this board. Projecting much? And my first name ain't Sweetheart, it's Al, if your nasty. Again, for the hard of reading, I mentioned those women because they happen to be some of the biggest stars in the world and it's generally known that they've all used the casting couch. I'm done with this topic. I'm going to go and be over the top and irrational at my place of business now.

As someone who was in casting for tv for many years I can tell you that I have had many couches.
I got quid pro quo'd by a famous playwright/director. He tossed it off lightly, like a joke, but he meant it. Yes, it does happen. No, I didn't, by the way...
Yes, it does. It happened to me, and it's not fun. And no, I declined the offer, too. But yep, it still exists.... probably more than anyone would care to admit (or realizes.)
well, i have to admit, I mostly thought, that it happens more to women than men. I guess its because one mostly hears storys about women than men
