Wouldn't pay $111 to see it, but I'd definitely pay $11.
A long time ago I created a thread here on BWW about Regal Cinemas airing a simulcast of a production of an Opera LIVE! I voiced my opinion on how they should do this with Broadway shows.
Behold, producers of CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF are planning to do this.
They also now have the film rights if they can get a director and cast together, plus a production co. on board.
Brava to A BRONX TALE, CYRANO, and CAT, all of whom recouped during their limited engagements.
This is indeed quite a successful year for plays.
If they got a great director, a film version with this cast could be exponentially better.

And AUGUST, which recouped, anyway.

I could see it being a telefilm like Raisin in the Sun was...not sure about a big screen production.
The playbill.com article talks about Byrd wanting to begin filming in 2009 "if he gets the cast he wants." Why do I fear that this will mean Beyonce, Halle Berry, or whatever other less talented big name will replace Anika Noni Rose? I'll only see the film if she's in it.
I also think it screams TV movie, but a big feature film, I don't think so. Perhaps if Tyler Perry directs it, that's the only way I see it being a BO success.
I'd love it if there was a simulcast, I'd so be there.

The problem with Tyler Perry is that he won't do it unless it's titled "Tyler Perry's Cat On a Hot Tin Roof." He can't seem to take a sh*t without titling it "Tyler Perry's Sh*t."
Why is that?
Funny that such a poorly reviewed, poorly directed, and poorly received show has recouped and is now getting ready to become a film; how does this happen?

I shudder at the image of STREETCAR being remade as a film.
Just shoot me now...

That was hysterical, OrdinaryJukebox. Seriously. Well done!

Amen. It's a little sad, isn't it?
