Thirdly, what is a pab? We have a cubanpab and just a pab. Are they related?
*Hugs Kringas for being so funny*
I really enjoy the London cast recording, Ruthie makes for a fantastic Roxie and well, Ute is Ute. My ex saw them in London on opening night and said that people went crazy for Ute as she came up the elevator at the beginning.
I agree with Ljay that the Broadway supporting cast is better than the London one.

that's fine, but it's still a set and costume DESIGN, to not give someone credit for the choice is ignorance.
But if they've admitted it was strictly a money thing, then you're really giving to much weight to the "design" of the show. You're putting meaning where there isn't any.

and to help you out Kringas... a Cuban is someone from the island of Cuba... 75 miles south of key west... tiny island... which is where my folks were born... thus making me a Cuban-American.
And "Pab" is the nickname I've been called since I was a kid... short for my full name... Pablo.

Kringas -
my point is simple - there ARE sets and costumes, even if they are all black and somewhat sparse. Just admit i'm right and move on.

Cubanpab - I see what you're saying about the voices on the Chicago revial cast recording. I don't care for Ann Reinking's voice on the recording.
You might want to give a listen to the London Cast Recording. Ute Lemper and Ruthie Henshall have better voices on it.

Posted: 7/24/07 at 10:05amThey have outfits they were, which I guess could be considered costumes. I don't recall a set, though. I still wouldn't call it a design, though.

In honor of Ann Reinking, watch and bow in reverence:

That's some set.

"That's some set."
Of course. You said in your previous post that you don't recall a set when in fact there is something there that makes up the set. The show takes a very minimalistic approach.

As for it being minimalist, that again implies some sort of forethought was put into that, when in reality they just reused the "set" they had at Encores. Frugalist, maybe, but not minimalist.

You are absolutely right. I hate designers. I hate them all. Rotten, scummy lowlifes.

I dont even know that I can dignify this thread with a real response.
But just FYI, William Ivey Long and John Lee Beaty ARE credited in the playbill.

Reinking was/is a great dancer, but she could never really sing, to paraphrase Ed Kleban.

There is a clip from the touring production of BYE BYE BIRDIE starring Tommy Tune and Ann Reinking, available to viewing thanks to GYPSY 1527. That early 1990's touring production never came to Broadway, unfortunately, because Tommy Tune supposedly didn't want to bring a revival to NYC, only an original show.
I saw that production at the beautiful old Forrest Theatre in Philadelphia and loved it. The dancing by the two leads was wonderful. But I still remember with fondness the 1960 Broadway BIRDIE with Chita Rivera and Dick Van Dyke, and the hilarious Kay Medford as Mae and Paul Lynde as Mr. McAfee.
