CHICAGO at the Oriental

Just got back from a Thurs matinee of CHICAGO. Wow is this tour in good shape! Charlotte D'amboise is (as she was on Broadway) a firecracker as Roxie! Roz Ryan, and Kevin Chamberlin also steal the show as Mama Morton and Amos. THe rest of the cast is in great shape as well. A really good production.

Wish I could see this one, but it doesn't look like that will happen.

Sweet. . I think I'm going to see it tonight. I let my date decide between Chicago and Xanadu. . and I'm really hoping he picks Chicago lol.

I'm going to try to make it out to the Oriental for this, but money's pretty tight. Anyone know if there are any student deals? I'm guessing not, but a girl can hope.

re: CHICAGO at the Oriental

I saw Chicago last night, and it was really decent.

I wouldn't say its my favorite show. . I was a little disappointed with the stagecraft. . It seemed a little on the cheap side. . but the dancing/acting/singing was great.

I didn't go to see John O'Hurley but I thought he was a great Billy. . way better than Richard Gere (my only frame of reference)

I didn't see "Xanadu" because its going to be in Chicago longer than Chicago. .I know I will see it later.

Which, sadly is what I said about Jersey Boys a year ago. . lol.

I want to see this so bad! I am a big fan of John and am going to try and get student discount tickets (which I am not completely sure they have them) before the show leaves the city.

re: CHICAGO at the Oriental

I saw this on Thursday night with my theater in Chicago class. It was decent. We were pretty high up in the balcony, but still had a pretty good view (there really aren't many bad seats in the Oriental). I just....idk. Maybe it goes back to when my high school did the show but I'm just not a huge fan. John O'Hurley was pretty good, charming as expected. I hated the barely-there costumes, and the all-black, especially because the ensemble seemed to blend into the set (although this may just be because I have terrible eyesight). The dancing was good but other than that it was nothing spectacular. I think I just don't like the show itself lol I can't put my finger on what but something about it just doesn't sit well with me. Meh.

Johnnyd, there's a discount code on broadway in chicago's website for 39.00 orchestra tickets I think.

re: CHICAGO at the Oriental

Thanks for that info! I actually saw this just tonight using student discount ($25 tickets!) and it was amazing! I saw John coming out the stage door but he wasn't very personable, because he was trying to stay dry from the rain. Hehe.

re: CHICAGO at the Oriental

There *was* a student discount? Oh well. When I saw that they didn't have any more in the $30 range, my friend and I decided to JB again. I actually think it was quite a wise decision. Just out of curiosity, where were the student tickets?

re: CHICAGO at the Oriental

I think ours were student tickets when I went for class, they were the very last rows of the balcony (I was in T but there were 2 or 3 more rows behind me of more students)

Yeah, I sat in the dress circle. It's not the best seats, but they were originally 95 bucks so I felt like I got my money's worth.

re: CHICAGO at the Oriental

^ True dat. lol that's how I feel whenever I rush JB...the people behind you paid $100+ for their tickets which really are not so much better than the front row in terms of the "limited view."

Side note/thread jack: apparently Bryan McElroy's last day as Tommy is April 23. I will die of happiness if by some miracle Jeremy Kushnier comes back from Toronto to re-take over the role. In reality I have no idea who his replacment will be, but a girl can dream! lol

It'd be cool if they sent us Christian Hoff, even though that won't happen.
