GO SEE CHITTY!
It's probably going to be campy and silly, but Raul Esparza is PURE FREAKING PERFECTION. It'll be worth your money just to see this man perform. I don't think I could ever come up with enough wonderful things to say for him.

Posted: 12/21/04 at 6:49pmSince this is the premiere does that mean it's gonna be a whole fiasco thing before where you can meet them? Because I certainly would NOT mind meeting Raul...

Posted: 12/21/04 at 6:50pmOpening night or first preview? It's probably the first preview... either way I'm not sure, but opening night is probably going to be kind of crazy. Raul is such a doll, though.

Posted: 12/21/04 at 10:41pmI love Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! The London cast recording is great, and they've added some great new songs. It is silly, but so highly enjoyable, and very well written. I LOVE IT!

As someone who has seen the London production several times, I can assure you it is NOT horrible. It's an engaging, fun show.
If you didn't like the movie, you probably won't like the stage show, but anyone with fond memories of the film should enjoy it. The stage musical is pretty close to the film story with some minor changes that actually improve the story line.
I recommend it

I am a CHITTY fan, too! It's family entertainment fare and is very enjoyable. I saw it several times in London and I never left the Palladium without the tunes humming incessantly in my mind and my face breaking into a happy grin
I understand there have been changes to the production I had seen ( with the original cast) and these are supposed to go into the Broadway version.
The Opening Night is around the end of April, 2005 ( the show starts previews towards the end of March). I guess they are trying to make the cutoff for TONY award consideration.
I do recommend the show!

Posted: 12/22/04 at 8:49amThe only good thing about this show is the car. It is dying in the west end because there is nothing to it. At least they have turned Mary Poppins into a PROPER musical...

Posted: 12/22/04 at 9:40amI saw Chitty back when Michael Ball was still Caracticus and I had a blast! I remembered very little, if anything, from the movie so that had no impact on my experience. Very catchy songs that do, as someone else mentioned, stick with you for DAYS and a couple of them are quite lovely. It may not be life-altering but it’s definitely a fun family show and, honestly, worth it for the car alone. It really is an incredible thing to see! Cannot wait to hear Raul sing "Hush-a-bye Mountain" and see him do the pole dancing!
