what kind of money do you have and space? You could play on the cast size or something, but give us more details. You need other options, not just why you cant do this. You need all supporting facts. Work on it. Maybe LSOH? you only need one strong girl and you have 3ish strong guys- smaller cast with a cool set Updated On: 11/9/04 at 09:48 PM

out of those i would say JAH- it has a strong male cast and can have a large cast. IF you had more girls i would say 42nd street- i saw it last year done by a high school and was very cool. How is your dancing?

Dancing - ummm...not too great! Les Mis would be too hard. It is such a good show and I don't think we would even come close to doing it justice...anyone else?? I am the only one who thinks Cinderella is a lame show?????

I am not a Cinderella fan. In fact, being in it turned me off to acting for 2 years. My prince was horrid and I had to feed him lines during performances, etc.... I had a horrible time. And I didnt really click with the rest of the cast but one.
Of course, a strong male is necessary for this. My opinion is more of a personal one, though.

We did South Pacific & Bye, Bye Birdie in HS. SP only needs one strong female...lots of guys. Plus, they were really FUN to do.

I think of the ones that you suggested, The Music Man would probably be the best for your school. A lot of parts for both male and female and only a little dancing.

Bye Bye Birdie and Music Man are great shows, but a little overdone by high schools. Carousel is a great show and requires very strong males, while only 3 women, 2 being real singing roles, Carrie falling into more of an character actress role. It doesnt have much dancing (the ballet and blow high blow low, but they can both be done with minimal dancing or just one good dancer) and it is Rodgers' best score. My Fair Lady requires one very strong female singer/actress, but the rest of the roles fall to males. Camelot is also a good possibility. Steer clear of sondheim...its too hard for schools to pull off well.
These are all old shows, if you wanted more modern ones that pull in a younger audience, maybe La Cage? :P :P wouldnt your principal love that. Something like Joseph or JCS could be good...as both only require one female role...and i like them because they are actually good for ALW!

Guys and Dolls, Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph...those are real good "hey i have good guys but my girls really suck the big one" shows...or in the event you have zero talent...Lil Abner

I would try 'The Music Man'...but even then, there's a mix of girl/guy parts - but you gotta have a very strong male as Harold Hill, otherwise the show tends to collaspe.

Also 'Jesus Christ Superstar' would be good...some high schools do a really very nice job with that show.

hey i go to school with bernadette 88. many of us would love to do LSOH but we can not afford the plant. cinderella was just a suggestion we had last year that could bring in money which we desperately need. chris you didnt have to erase what you said. if its harsh i can handle it b/c the world is harsh especially in theatre. but i'll talk to you tomorrow when we all debate spring musical.

I think Cinderella is a beautiful show IF you follow the script as done in the '60s version with Leslie Ann Warren. The updated version is so lame as to make me change my mind about seeing the City Opera version this fall. I had high hopes, but when I heard they were doing the up-dated version, I bailed. The script that was used for the second televised version in color with Warren and Celeste Holm as the Fairy godmother has better dialogue, song content, and a better over-all feel to the production.

"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!
