I have to ask...
I've seen several of y'all saying you bought a CD at Colony ... WHY? they are sooooo overpriced, actually charging about 20-30% MORE than the manufactuers list price. I bought a CD there once, then found the SAME CD at the Virgin Megastore [a few blocks away] at a much lower price.

They are overpriced and no longer fun to browse as they were in the Lp days. However, because they are overpriced they have stock long after an item goes out-of-print and everyone else is sold out. Still I would rather support Footlight Records.
COLONY are also very slow to pay suppliers. Sometimes overdue by 6 to 8 weeks.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Posted: 5/1/05 at 1:39amFor me, Colony will always be a place where I purchase sheet music and not CDs, unless, of course, I can't find them anywhere else. They always had what I wanted, back when I was a student, and I’ve been able to find sheet music there ever since, especially when I could not find it at other places.

i can see sheet music [i don't know how they price that] but paying $22+ for a CD you can buy at another place for $13.99
sounds like a waist of money to me.
rentboy: footlight does have a store downtown [not sure on the address], never was in it - so i don't know how well it's stocked

Posted: 5/1/05 at 10:40pmI enjoy browsing when I'm in NYC, but I rarely purchase because of the ridiculous pricing (this goes for CDs, DVDs AND sheet music). In terms of, well, almost everything, it's more cost-efficient to look elsewhere. The only items I've bought there are the incredibly rare cast album CDs that I think are out of print. (I've gotten "Juno" and "The Grand Tour" from them). They tried pushing the new OLC of "Mary Poppins" on me for $40, which I ended up buying for half of that from Amazon UK.
