All right, I need an answer, like, now.

It's 17 bucks on iTunes, which is the most ridiculous thing ever, because I can buy the full two-disc cast recording of Rent for only two bucks more. Yet, Amazon and PS Classics will be more expensive with shipping. And I really don't care about physical CD or not, I just want the music.

The question is, if I go out tomorrow and go to my local Best Buy or Barnes and Noble or whatever, note that I live in Vegas, will I find Company, or should I just splurge and buy it now? Please answer!...

You likely won't find it in a store until Tuesday, if by "tomorrow" you mean Monday. I guess you could go and see, and then get it on iTunes if they don't have it.

goldenstate, you very well may find the recording at Best Buy. I went to my local Best Buy back in December searching for the Spring Awakening recording. The store is in western MA and surprisingly they had a copy. I will be stopping by sometime after the Tuesday release date to see if they have Company.

I LOVE IT!

Finally, streamlined and sleek, just like the city it's set in.

Damn, they are doing some FINE orchestrating for broadway shows nowadays.

it's smart, it's classy, just the essence of the work so you can pick out the fine detail.
MUCH more rhythmic integrity than any other recording I have heard, and that's a Sondheim trademark.

Between this and the new Sweeney, I am really falling in love with this bare-bones-essence of music orchestration trend that's happening now, whether they are played by the actors or not.

Okay, so I just looked at my itunes play count and discovered that my five most played songs are all from the OBCR of Company....this revival recording just can't compare for me. It's funny how much I love the OBCR of Company because when I first got the CD, I was 15, I think, and it came as part of a box-set (I can't remember the other CDs in the set). Anyway, when I first listened to it I thought, "what the hell is this? Eww it sounds so 70s!" and I tossed it aside. Fast forward seven or eight years when I "discover" it in my CD collection and now it's one of my favorites.

Oddly, I love the 2005 BCR of Sweeney Todd much more than the OBCR....

Minor threadjack - checking out Amazon.ca and it says they're not releasing the album until February 27th... anyone know anything about that? (I'm not sure how credible it actually is, the site says the album was originally released in 1995)

What are you talking about? I just tried searching for "Company," 'Raul Esparza" and "Barbara Walsh" and did not find the new cast recording on iTunes.

I need to pick up a new iTunes card before I can buy this, but I can't wait. I've been waiting and waiting and now I can finally enjoy this cast recording.

I love iTunes. You would think that living near Boston that it would be easy to find just released cast recordings, but it isn't always. When 'A Chorus Line' came out I had to go to four different places before I found it =/

Personally, I think the new CD in infinitely better than the OBC. I know that's blasphemy or whatever, I just love how clear it all sounds. And the cast is fab.

I liked the OBC but could never decipher any of the ensemble songs. With the new recording, every voice is clear - I am getting lines from "Company" that I never heard. And the voices are fabulous - especially Raul's. Very warm and seductive, and funny.
