Every production of COMPANY takes a different interpretation of who and what Bobby is. Raul Esparza, in the John Doyle production, famously played Bobby as a borderline-alcoholic who probably had a few problems more than being single. Other common interpretations include the ever-popular "Bobby is in the closet, and in deep denial about it" and "Bobby is impossible to understand, because instead of a realistic character, he is a cipher."
