This show is hysterical, relevant, and true. An excellent portrayal of social norms then and now!

There was good writing here, but the tone was inconsistent. Part of it is cartoonish and satirical, the other serious. The cartoonish part, satirizing the mores of the 50s, seemed tired and obvious. It's been done to death already. The serious scenes worked better, but the problem in one of the marriages was not explored well enough.
Anyhow, it is the best of the Fringe offerings I've seen until now, but I've seen a lot of poor ones.
I hope this show gets an Encore performance at Fringe...
I'm also hoping this gets extended as part of the Encores series. Since all but one of the performances were weekday matinees, it was almost impossible to recommend to anyone.
I thought the blend of funny and serious was actually perfect.
Word on the street (per a cast member) is that A Contemporary American's Guide to a Successful Marriage IS going to be a part of the Fringe Encores Series at the SoHo Rep...with mostly night performances!
