Philadelphia was lucky enough to be graced with the presence of Barbara Cook and Audra McDonald in concert tonight - one of the few cities to play host to their current joint concert appearances . Backed by Ted Sperling and Lee Musiker on piano and Peter Donovan on bass it was - as expected - a night to be treasured.

Neither performer ventured into repertory that was new to those who are familiar with their peerless work. I think the program list has been posted on other threads so I won't repeat but highlights included Barbara Cook's deeply emotional Jule Styne set (does any body sing a ballad better than Cook?) and McDonald's impassioned "Glamorous Life" and her touching "I Won't Mind" (which just gets better no matter how many times I hear her sing it). Their rendition of "The Grass is Always Greener" brought down the house.

What a joy to have these two performers on stage, clearly relishing each other's artistry and company and providing an example of what happens when a performer reaches beyond the words and the notes and illuminates a song with honesty and truth. I'm not sure how many more of these concerts they are doing, but you'd be foolish not to attend.

Great concert. I loved how BC missed on a few songs, laughed it off and started over. And the last song where Audra didn't like the begining so she re-did that note. What a terrific balance of their voices, so enjoyable.
