Maybe I am young and naive, but could someone answer me this
The song two ladies is peformed to show the current situation between Sally, Cliff and another male lover. Yet in the original production Cliff was very much straight, and as far as I know neither of them cheated on each other.
I thought Cliff wasn't made bi-sexual until the movie version.

I think what chita fan is saying the emcee says something like
everyone has a perfectly marvelous roomate, some people have two people!
in the original it was about cliff and sally only, i believe and emcee added the twist himself.
in the movie it was referenced as sally, cliff and the male lover but as two women and the emcee
in the revival it is again used as just sally and cliff but emcee adds a different twist, two men and one woman.

Sam Mendes, director of the revival of Cabaret, said:
In the original - Cliff is straight
In the movie - Cliff is bi
In the revival - Cliff is gay
In the revival, Sam had Emcee do that song with a man and woman to parallel Cliff, Bobby, and Sally.

Audiences were a lot more shocked about that sort of thing back then...it's nice how far we've come when we can now see Cliff make with the smoochies with Bobby AND Sally (but we all know he really wants Ernst, lol).

But since Cliff is actually Christopher Isherwood, he's always been gay. Even if that was only an undertone.
(I always like the fact that in the musical, Sally actually calls him Chris at one point and he corrects her...)

They might be trying to get good people back into the show before it closes. Or with Names.
Just who will be the last EMCEE>.... Just not JON Secada please!

I hope its someone good. Even if its someone in the cast now. Michael O'Donnel was amazing. If it was up to me, he should be Emcee!!!

Posted: 9/12/03 at 10:05pmI think Sam Mendes is wrong in the sense that, watching this Cabaret, I still come out with the "bi" idea that I do after the film. Maybe that is just me.
