“CABARET” TO CONTINUE,
AND TONYS EXTEND, TOO
"(Oct. 3, 2003) – “Cabaret” has taken down the closing notice posted for
Nov. 2 and will now continue at Studio 54 through at least the end of the
year and possibly into February. The Broadway revival of the Kander and
Ebb musical has benefited from a boost at the box office after the closing
notice went up at the end of August and since it was recently announced
that Adam Pascal will join the cast as the emcee on Oct. 17. There’s also
talk that the revival’s original stars, Natasha Richardson and Alan
Cumming, might return to the show before it closes."
I know you guys know this already but I think thats so cool that Alan Cumming & Natasha Richardson might come back!!!!

As great as that would be, for them to come back that is, I don't see it happening.

PJ.. I have to laugh about seeing Susan Egan and John Secada~~
She looks so pained to be performing with him.

He's gone soon...that's a plus. Besides, today is Mr. Secada's Birthday!

Wow! I think 10/4 should be declared a National Holiday--in Latvia!
Is Joh Secada Latvian? How exotic!

It does make the casting choise for him seem odd. Now I may be just totally ignorant but I thought the Emcee was gay and jewish? I mean Jon Secada looks hispanic to me. And not to say that a jewish person cannot be hispanic but back when the show was released wouldn't you think that would be odd?

Jon Secada is Cuban, I believe. Raul Esparza is Cuban and was the best Emcee I have seen in Cabaret.
By the way, there are many Jews in Cuba, as well as other Spanish speaking countries, including Spain and Mexico. We jewish people really get around.

Oh so THAT'S why he's out this weekend. I just saw the show this afternoon b/c I'm a whore like that, and I hadn't seen Vance Avery as the Emcee for over a year. Yeah. Bliss. Utter bliss. I hadn't seen a truly magnificent Cabaret since April. I think I'm going to marry Susan Egan...I can't even articulate what makes her so perfect. She just is!
The only things that sucked was that Liz McConahay was out (but Penny's gotten really good) and that Tony Roberts is so freakin stiff as Herr Schultz. Other than that, I was one happy girl.

Finally. It's about time someone that's seen Susan this time around comments on her performance. It's good to hear that she's still going strong in the role that I'll never get to see her play. Pity.

Cabarethed, did you mean thats why he was out this weekend because of my post?
I did not mean to imply that Jon Secada might be Jewish. Have no idea what religion he is. Sorry. I meant two separate thoughts--one responding to the questions about Jon Secada's ethnic background, and second responding to whether hispanic people can be Jewish, and the casting choice issue. That's why I separated the paragraphs. ![]()

Yup, b/c of your post. I wondered why he'd take a weekend off 6 days before his final day. (not that I'm complaining!!!)
After today, only 6 more days and 8 more performances left...

Did you see it on a Thursday? Apparently he goes home every Wednesday to be with his family and misses every Thursday performance.

No, I saw it yesterday. Where did you hear that? He took off Thurs 9/25, one or two other times in the summer, and this weekend of the 4th and 5th. Believe me, I know...my friend was keeping me posted so I could try and catch a performance without him. She would have told me if he took off on Thursdays, as we would have been too happy for words.

Liz said that he just started doing that so he could spend time with his family. He was out the last Thursday we saw it. She said he had planned on going home each Wednesday. I don't know if that changed or what not, but thats what she told me.

Hmm, ok. He must have Just started doing that then. Now that I think about it, I think my friend started having off on Thursdays...ok, sorry!

No problem. :) I just thought that would explain why you missed him, but no... no clue why he was out yesterday!

Does anybody have any idea whether or not Adam is going to extend his run since the show itself has extended?
Broadway Legend Joined: 6/5/03
When Adam was signed, he would've only been doing 2 weeks of performances if the original closing date held. I'm sure they knew back then that there would be an extension.
