Cabaret Audition

Hello, I am auditioning soon for a local theater company's production of Cabaret. I have decided to go for the role of Cliff, but am having trouble finding good audition songs for the character. So far, I have been considering Smoke Gets In Your Eyes by Jerome Kern and Otto Harbach, as it is from a similar time period and fits the feel of the show and character fairly well. However, I am not completely satisfied with this song and would like to hear some in put on what other songs I could do. If the role of Cliff doesn't work out, I would go for Ernst, so it would be best if the song could fit both. However, Cliff is by far more of a priority, as Ernst is more of an afterthought in case Cliff doesn't work out, as they are letting people audition for more than one role. Cliff is the role that I feel I would be better suited for, and therefore if you have an idea for a song that would fit him and not Ernst, (which I assume most songs will be like since the characters are very different) I would still like it if you shared it. To clarify, if you know of any songs that would work for either character, please respond with it. Thank you all for any help given!

Does Ernst have a song besides the reprise of Tomorrow Belongs to Me? I wouldn't make that a focus. Just let them know you'd be open to being cast as Ernst. As for Cliff, it's also not a big singing role. Take a look at the score and make sure the song you choose shows off your range if that's at all important. Aside from that, I would take a look at dance songs or standards like the one you're considering because that's the vibe I get from "Perfectly Marvelous." Maybe look up some Fred Astaire movies or albums for ideas.
