Hey!
I've been lurking around here for a while, and thought this would be the best place to ask this. They're holding auditions for Cabaret at my college, and I have to prepare a 1-2 minute contemporary comic or dramatic monologue, and a vocal selection of about 1 minute to show off my voice. Does anyone have any suggestions for monologues or songs that would help if I was going for the Emcee? I'm pretty much a baritone. I can sing "I don't care much" really good, but is it wise to audition with a song from the show itself?
Thanks!

"I don't care much" might be okay - it was cut from the original production of Cabaret, and only restored for the current revival production, so it may not be licensed to be included with a college/community production yet.
Isn't Cabaret Tams-Witmark? Do they license the original or revival?

I believe it's original - sometimes they have both, but it all depends on where you are located as to which one you get to perform. For example - if you are 100 miles from New York and there is no tour slated to visit your city, you may be allowed the current version.
It depends
YAGMCB has both orriginal and revival

So what should Mike sing for the audition? What about another Kander & Ebb piece, maybe from Chicago? Mr. Cellophane might work.

Possibly "Easy Street" from 'Annie'? It's sleazy, you can wail on the high stuff in the song's chorus, and the song is from that 70's era of musicals, and Alan Cumming sang it on the TV movie recording-- so you've got your two degrees of separation between the revival's token Emcee and Rooster.
Ok, how about monologues? Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
