So... I saw Caligula last night. It was a very good show. I loved the music and Euan Morton is amazing (when isn't he???). I sat 2nd row on the aisle. It is definitely still a work in progress, but was a good show. I wished we got to see more of the happy caligula (euan) before he went crazy and tyrranical and stuff. Euan's performance is wonderful and so is Giles Chaisson. I love both of their voices and they have some very powerful songs.

One thing though.... does anyone else who has seen this show think that they are trying to make Giles look like Raul Esparza. I mean with the hair (kinda like his hair in parts of Taboo and a beard like the recent Normal Heart) and the make-up and the clothes. I don't know??? hehe...

But yeah, definitely go see this show. And this was also the first time I was ever in the theatre at St. Clements. I love theatre spaces like that. Very cozy. hehe...

Did anyone else go on friday the 28th????

undiscovered its a wonderful show absoulty breathtaking you will love it. So glad you had fun, I too thought Gilles looked so much like Raul I kept getting confused thinking it was Raul but then realizing it was Gilles. the whole cast is so talented i loved it. euan is never not fantastic you are right

haha yes Gilles DOES resemble Raul immensely!

I loved Caligula!! If they cut down on the book or some songs, it would work :)
I hope it goes somewhere because it deserves it so much!
and yes, Euan is FABULOUSLY AMAZING!!!!!!!!! <333

Hey... I have a question. Maybe some of you can help me out. I was trying to get a ticket to see the show again and I can't get any online. It says they aren't available. Did the extended run sell out already????? Thanx

I think the extension sold out within a day or so of it being announced a week ago.

Yes, the extension did sell out, I called twice and they told me that.

I was there last night too, tmz, second row center.

It is an excellent show, and Euan is fantastic throughout although I can't see where anyone thinks Gilles looks like Raul. The only remote similarity is dark hair and beard.

I doubt they were 'trying' to make Gilles look like Raul. There just happens to be an overall similarity, I think. And I could definitely see Raul in that role. But Gilles is great....and what piercing blue eyes! I've never seen him in anything before and I'm glad I finally had the opportunity.

Perfect love, perfect sin...there is no perfect anything.

I saw Gilles back when he was in The Scarlet Pimpernel, as Armand.

But Kelly, you're right about his eyes! It took me a minute to even believe they weren't blue contacts.

Gilles can't look like Esparza, he's been around a lot longer and is older, so it would be the other way around.

I have heard nothing but great things about this show. I hate to sound ignorant about it but what is it about?

Cara, I can send you a more detailed thing if you'd like...

but basically it's based after the famous Roman Emperor, Caligula.
He came to power and everyone was happy but he was young (25) and in love with his sister and after his sister died, he went crazy. He started killing all of these people and had brothels in the palace and went psychotic believing he was a G-D.
Eventually, his own people killed him.

It's an interesting story. There's a famous movie from the 70's about him. Euan gives him a heart :)

There is full frontal male nudity in the show for a decent amount of time, as in, a full scene.

Actually, Moriber is naked too but you really can't tell because she basically hides it very well, although she is topless and out in the open.

But, like emcee said, yes all the male nudity is Euan.

Are you talking about the Capri number? When I went there was only one girl who showed any skin and it was just her top coming down. Everyone else was clothed the whole time.

At the first show, at least three or four of the girls were topless, and a couple of the guys flashed their butts -- guess they toned it down a bit.

Yeah, they did tone it down. Actually when I went some girl was saying she heard they toned it down but she didn't know what they meant by that. So, when I went in (it was Friday the 24th) there was only the scene where Drusilla and Caligula were naked. Otherwise there was just one girl who showed her chest during the Capri song.

I guess it depends how they're feeling that night.

But regardless, you'll get some nudity if you go!

But even though they talk about incest, brothels etc.- it's more like dancing sexually (like RENT's "Contact") rather than showing it more.

Actually when I was there, there were even people putting their names down to try and get in on a cancellation kind of thing, I don't know if they got in though. A lot of people did stay after to see Euan too. It was nice.
