Caligula tomorrow night!!!-My review...

I'm FINALLY going to see Caligula tomorrow night (and I just wanted to share!) Woo hoo! Can't wait!!!!

Have fun! Well, maybe not...it's not exactly the feel-good hit of the season :) but Euan and Gilles are excellent...I've always been a Sebastian Arcelus fan, it was nice seeing him in something new as well.

Oh gosh, I can't wait to see Sebastian. I think he is just wonderful, and he sings a mean "Leavin' on a Jet Plane".

I saw it last week--made a special trip that included plans to see it, in fact.

I was thoroughly entertained. There wasn't a weak performer in the whole show.
It was great to finally get to see what all the Euan fuss was about. He definitely didn't disappoint. I was impressed with his ability to "switch" so quickly into "wacky mode" or into "sullen mode" and just any of the craziness that the character of Caligula required.
And Gilles totally owned the stage when he was on it (even climbing ohsocarefully on the scaffolding!) His voice was commanding and passionate. I have been a fan of his since "Chrysalis" so I was thrilled to get to see him perform.

Other standouts were: Sebastian Arcelus and Shorey Walker, who were not only great in their roles of Germanicus and Agrippina, but also in their ensemble parts as well; And Brooke Sunny Moriber who I suspect is far more talented than her role gave her time to be.

The show itself was hip and different and very glam. It's definitely not for the traditional-minded theatre fans, but I can certainly see it having a big following.
Anyone who is lucky enough to have scored tickets will be in for a good time.

I also saw it last nighti--it ROCKED! (and JRB kept pinching my tushy during intermission.)

So, there I was...sitting in my seat during intermission kicking myself for not seeing this SOONER!
Wow, this show is AMAZING!!! I'm not really sure what I was expecting, but I really left with absolutely no dissapointments. (Well, other than the fact that there isn't a cast recording available for me to purchase.) Oh my God, I loved it!
Everything about the show itself if awesome. The cast is SOOOOOOOOO talented, and the orchestra is brilliant. The melodies and lyrics are very catchy. It's like Taboo and Cabaret meets Jesus Christ Superstar and We Will Rock You. It also reminded me a lot of Aida for some reason.
The opening scene grabs hold. I don't want to spoil the show for anyone who hasn't seen it, so I'm going to be short with things. Euan is terrific, and really pulls off the part well. For whatever reason, he seems to be best fitted for characters with large egos. I would like to see him in something different...for example, Chitty Chitty, which he said he wasn't going to be in.
Gilles Chiasson is on of the most talented men I have ever met. He was so captivating, and made the show for me personally. Wow-wee! I am talking SERIOUS talent here! For all the stuff this guy has been in, he should have a Tony! Plus, he has a magnificent set of the prettiest blue eyes I have ever seen in my life. They are really quite amazing. And If I were making the costume choices, his butt would have been in a pair of leather pants with the skirty thing over it. Ahhh, what a man! I can't wait to see him in more stuff in the future.
I hope to see this show become more than just a project for the NYMTF. Man, I would LOVE to see this show again!

Sammy, when did you see it before last night? Was it one of the first performances? I wonder if the changes happened since I last saw it. I'm going tonight. Managed to scrounge up a ticket.

I enjoyed the changes too, they made the ending flow a little better.

I had so much fun both times I saw this show. The cast and music is great, and it really works well. One of the things I like the best is how they make so much use of the ensemble. They're always around, and there's always a few ensemble members getting a little more attention in a lot of the scenes. It's disturbing, but what more can you expect from a show about this particular subject matter. They make great use of it.

I would LOVE to see this show go somewhere. I think, with a bit more work, it could be pretty successful.

I went last night... I'll post more actual thoughts later... loved it though. And it was great to see you both, Sammy and Chrysanthemum!!
