Can anyone help me?
#0Can anyone help me?
Posted: 10/7/03 at 7:36pmI have an audition for Little Shop of Horrors on the eighteenth and I have no idea what I'm going to sing. It's just a small theatre company, so most of the people are my age. I want to make a good impression on the auditors. I was going to sing Memory, but that is so over done. Everyone keeps saying I should sing something from the show, but I still can't decide. Can anyone help me?

Posted: 10/7/03 at 7:42pmNO! NEVER sing a song from the show you are auditioning for unless you are 100% sure that you can knock it out of the ballpark or you are asked specifically to sing a number from the show. You sing a shoddy rendition of a song from the show they will right you off right away. After all, you are suppossed to have prepeared the stuff before hand and if you do it badly, they will KNOW, not think -- KNOW, that you won't be able to turn in a solid performance of the show's music onstage. Posted: 10/7/03 at 7:44pmtheaternut, I'm 14, but it says it has to be something from a musical stage show. That's exactly what it says. broadwayguy2, I can't even fathom singing something from the show!

Posted: 10/7/03 at 7:45pmAs an unwritten rule sometimes it's best NOT to sing from the composers backlog of songs, a 50's or 60's ballad or uptempo number might be perfect.

Posted: 10/7/03 at 7:47pmCan I ask you.. what part specifically in the show are you interested in?
#6re: re: re: re: Can anyone help me?
Posted: 10/7/03 at 7:53pmI don't mean to be an eager beaver but I've wanted to play Audrey since I was four years old. I really don't think I'll get it. I would definitely settle for playing one of the three girls.

A fiftys or 60's ballad is a great idea. Do you know Petula Clarks "downtown" ?

Posted: 10/7/03 at 7:59pmIf I was you I would sing something belty or at least in your chest voice. Little Shop's female roles, as few as there is, all are for belters, except for maybe Chiffon who is the high soprano in the girls trio....

No.. It isn't. I goofed. How about "I can hear the bells" from Hairspray?
#11re: re: re: re: re: re: Can anyone help me?
Posted: 10/7/03 at 8:02pmI have no problem belting, that's how I was trained. That's why I wanted to sing Memory.

How about something from Smokey Joe's Cafe - Falling or WOMAN?
Or "Leader of the Pack" has a lot of good stuff.
BTW - are you auditioning for Rainbow Co. in LV?

'Cause I'm from Vegas and I know auditions for Rainbow Co's Little Shop are on the 18th - I just put two and two together.
You should come by and check me and my hubby out Once On This Island - by Signature Productions. It's open until Oct 25th. A great show for a young performer like yourself to see.
My husband is a old Rainbow Company Performer - he was even thinking of auditioning for Little Shop - He still may if they can work around Once On This Island.
So, let us know how it goes, and feel free to e-mail or pm me for more info.

Smokey Joes Sounds like a good idea, then there is also beauty and the beast, and Mermaid.
And BWAY GUY: I auditioned for oklahoma with LONELY ROOM. Called Back multiple times, lost the part because I was 19, they gave it to a guy that was 45? WHAT GIVES HUH?
