Caprice is a supermodel and she was on the cover of magazines ....but nobody knew she could sing....and yes the girl can belt a song. She was in "The Vagina Monologues"
Her website is www.caprice-online.com and there is a review of her 12-week run in "RENT".
Caprice is the most photographed woman in the world.
Check her out she is fine as hell.

I'm not sure how being in "The Vagina Monologues" means you can sing.
And..the most photographed person in the world? Hardly.
But wonderful PR attempt. I think Bush can use you.

She can belt a song???? You are kidding, right?
Her appearance in Rent was the biggest joke since Dannii Minogue in Notre Dame De Paris. In fact, at least Dannii tried (and failed) to sing whereas Caprice didn't even attempt to. The producers and Caprice herself were very open about the fact that she lip-synched all of Maureen's songs, making that particular production of Rent one of the biggest jokes to ever hit the West End.
I was disgusted by her performance!

I saw her and it's an experience I try not to recall.
The words 'utterly incompetent'spring to mind. The material clearly went way over her head!
The producers actually spent a long time denying the fact that she was miming, but she was so cr*p at lip-synching they had to admit it in the end.
Actully, the Mark Goucher tour and London production were a total insult to Jonathan Larson's memory.

Posted: 7/3/05 at 8:00amholy crap - aren't you "not allowed" to lip sync on stage? isn;t that why they call in the swings/understudies? if someone loses their voice, they just take the night off. what a joke that must have been. i wonder how the rest of the cast felt about it. weren't adam and anthony (and jesse and wilson) in that cast?

Well, it's not illegal to lip-synch and I guess there was no need to call in understudies as Caprice never lost her voice... She just never had one to begin with!
Caprice wasn't in the OLC with Anthony, Adam etc but joined a London production in 2001 (or was it 2002?) and let's just say that none of her colleagues were particularly impressed by her!

OMG, Who wrote that article?? "in particular the mellow-voiced Collins heart-rending solo of Without you" I nearly fell out of my chair when I read that. Did this person even see the show? First of all Without You isn't even a solo, how could they mix up Without You with I'll Cover you, which in my opinion is a memorable song.
And "there are many uplifting moments provided by such rousing songs as La Vie Boheme and Living in America" Living in America? do they mean What You Own? Is that song uplifting and rousing?
I can't believe she lipsynced, I would have been so mad if I saw her and she lipsynced. If you can't sing, dont be in a musical!

"she sold tickets"
But as far as I'm aware, she didn't even manage that! I know a lot of people were put off by the thought of her in a musical - and I'm not just talking about musical theatre-liking people here. She's only known for being a model, everyone assumed she wouldn't be able to act/sing and so were put off.
As far as her perfomance goes, I didn't see her, but from what I could gather she was really bad. Apparently her acting was good enough to not ruin the funeral scene completely. But that's the best thing I've heard said about her.
(Although it has to be said she was dedicated, she didn't miss many - if any - perfomances (unfortunately one might say!) Also reported that she was really nice at the stagedoor.)

I spoke to the producer of that particular productiuon of Rent one day and we started talking about this whole casting stunt.
He sort of agreed with the fact that it is a complete joke to have someone like her mime to the songs but he made a few good points from his point of view.
He mentioned all the articles, TV appearances and therefore advertisement the show received just because of Caprice, he wouldn't have been able to afford this kind of advertisement in a million years. He was referring to full pages in daily papers that would report on her appearance in the show, so yes, the profits of the show definitely benefited because of her.
Of course, the whole show became a joke amongst theatre lovers and were a slap in the face for a lot of talented people out there but it's all about the cash at the end of the day.
By the way, she mimed to her own voice. Her voice was too weak and shaky for a live performance, hence they brought her into a studio, recorded and enhanced her voice and off she went to mime to her own voice in Rent.

Posted: 7/4/05 at 4:05amthat was one of the first things i heard about Rent! A lot of my friends were asking what it was about because Caprice had a lesbian kiss... a group of blokes talking about musical theatre in a pub... i think the casting worked!

Posted: 7/4/05 at 8:46amSee, I am so certain she didn't lip synch Over The Moon. I saw her in the production and her voice was strong but very unpleasant and tuneless for Over The Moon compared to how light but vaguely in tune she was for Take Me Or Leave Me. Plus, surely it's very difficult to lip synch Over The Moon, no? For TMOLM they restyled her hair so it was over her face and you couldn't see her mouth properly, which they didn't do for OTM.

Posted: 7/4/05 at 11:16amSo we know she can't sing, but could she act? Was her acting at least decent? Also, I think the whole spirit of the show is lost. After reading the "RENT bible," I think Larson's show is too focused on the profit, rather than the actual show itself. I think the producers would understand that, but I guess not. At the end of the day its all about the Profit, which sucks.
