Hey I am new here. We are doing this show at my school this year and I was just wondering if anyone could help me out with a character breakdown of the show and maybe the voice parts of the characters.

Lily--Wide-eyed, innocent young girl looking to join the carnival. Soprano. (originally, it was played by a teenage coloratura singer; some opera training is advisable)

Paul--Bitter ex-dancer, turned puppeteer because of a leg injury. Must be able to do puppet character voices. Baritenor.

Jacquot--Paul's best friend and assistant, an optimistic foil to Paul's cynicism. Must do puppet character voices. Baritone.

Marco the Magnificent--Suave, "Zorro"-like ladies' man, full of processed charm. Physical role. Bass-baritone.

Rosalie--Marco's girlfriend and assistant. Brassy, jealous spitfire. Mezzo/belter.

Schlegel--Ringmaster and carnival owner. Pompous, weary, overworked (I played this.) Character bass or baritone.

Clowns, Roustabouts, Acrobats, etc. Very physical ensemble show, not terribly difficult to sing.
