Posted: 2/10/06 at 12:42pmDoes anyone have this? What can you tell me about it? A friend of mine sang "Mira" in a concert a few years ago and I absolutely love it, but I've never heard anything else from the show. I saw the recording last night but wasn't sure how good it was. Any thoughts?

Buy it.
Its good.
Really really good.
The story is from the film called Lili released in 1953 or so.
Paper Mill Playhouse in NJ is doing a full production next month.

Posted: 2/10/06 at 2:06pmThanks. I was beginning to think no one would respond to this. I listened to clips on Amazon and it sounded pretty good. I just didn't know the story or anything. Like I said, Mira was the only thing I'd heard from it.

One of those special little shows too often overlooked. The final scene when Lili is going to leave and the puppetts call out to her to come back is a real choker-upper.
M-G-M's cast album is not one of the better ones. The sound quality is poor and the record suffered from sloppy recording with a lot of distortion. At least the CD restores the songs to the correct running order.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

I was given the oppurtunity to play Paul a few years back and let me tell you I fell completely in love with this show. One of the most fun performances I've ever been a part of. DEFINITELY buy the album.

I have the recording of CARNIVAL (on black vinyl) and love the score. However, I saw the Encores! version of it a few years ago and I was disappointed with the story. It's really a dark tale. Perhaps the show didn't work for me because there was no chemistry between Ann Hathaway and Brian Stokes Mitchell. I also had many qualms about Hathaway's singing voice.
CARNIVAL! doesn't follow the script of LILI exactly. The character of Rosalie was very sophisticated in the film and played in the show as low comedy by Kaye Ballard.

Posted: 2/11/06 at 9:33amThe score is wonderful, one of my favorites. I love Anna Maria Alberghetti's singing voice. I find it so crisp and clear. I ADORE "Beautiful Candy", it's my favorite song in the show. I recommend this album a thousand times over. Simply lovely. A most definite buy.

Have fun. Such a great, sweet score. It never fails to bring a smile to my face and warmth to my cold cold heart.

So, the musical and the movie are "based on a story by Paul Gallico," but that's all I've been able to find... repeatedly.
Does anyone know the name of the story that inspired the show and the movie?
