Carol Channing "qoutes" Ethel Merman

Is Channing confusing a backstage visit from Merman with seeing Merman in GYPSY? Those two qoutes from Merman are clearly lines from the GYPSY.

It's like when the late Joey Adams used to quote people in his column, but it would just be lines they said in movies.

Strange but I'm sure she knew the lines were in GYPSY. I mean, what is funny about the quotes otherwise?

The response "Because you're lucky" really isn't funny per se because of anything that's happened in "Gypsy" up until that point.

"Your lyrics lack subtlety! You can't just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!"

She's been doing that same act forever. Still love her. The material about Sophie Tucker, Bankhead, Merman goes back decades.
