Carol Channing

Are there any major Carol Channing fans here? I think she's amazing, but you don't hear much about her around here.

I did not gain a true appreciation of this amazing woman until I did Dolly myself

re: Carol Channing

Oh Dollypop, I was concerned, for a moment I read your first posting on this thread as " I have reservations for several of her performances..." as in you were anxious about what she would be like. I (briefly) thought 'surely not Dollypop'. lol.

Be sure to watch "Carol Channing and Pearl Bailey on Broadway". Her "If I Were a Rich Man" is simply to die for. And her Marlene Deitrich number proves her comic genius.

re: Carol Channing

I wasn't really a fan of Carol's before, but two months ago (to the day, actually) she performed her new show "The First 80 Years Are the Hardest" for a theatre company whose board I'm on, and I have to say I became a fan instantly! The woman is incredible. She had the audience eating out of the palm of her hand from the moment she stepped on stage! Her show was alternately hilarious and moving.

Not only that, but two nights before the show, she and her husband Harry had dinner with those of us on the board, and I will remember that night as one of the most exciting nights of my life. Carol and Harry were extremely gracious and so charming. I sat next to Harry during dinner, and he could not have been nicer. They told us all sorts of stories and even sang a little for us during dinner. It was quite an evening!

I have a pic of me and Carol that was taken after dinner in my fan photos.

re: Carol Channing

Carol Channing is wonderful! I got to see her at the 2004 Tonys and i was amazed that even though she's getting up in age she still is astounding. I wish I was in NYC to see her concert! She should have won the Oscar for her role in Thoroughly Modern Millie. None of my friends like her at all, because they don't like her voice. I love it because it's unique. Just like Ethel Merman has a distinctive voice. I wish I could have see Carol in Hello, Dolly!
