Hey folks,
This week I just bought Caroline or Change. I listened to the whole thing, but it kinda wasn't doing anything for me. Could someone possibly send me some encouragement to stick with it. I mean, I love the Radio songs but I'm kinda not feeling a lot of the other stuff. What songs should I really pay attention to? Any words of wisdom about this recording?

If you haven't read the bww.com review, you might persuse that as well.
It is a beautiful show and although it may seem inaccessible or uninteresting at first, it is well-worth the time you give it.
I know because I became a convert to CAROLINE, and ultimately saw it more than twice.

Read Margo's post on the third page of the link DGrant provided. It's a very well-written post (as Margo's always are).
Do remember that every show is not for everyone. If you can't get into CAROLINE, it doesn't make you a bad person.

I think you have to look at the deeper meaning of the show. On the surface, the story seems a little dull and boring, but there is so much depth and symbolism in the show. Im not going to even attempt to point out all the symbols and metaphores, but I think Margo did a good job on a previous thread explaining a lot of it.

Well, as you can tell I am an advocate of this show. It's one of my very favorites. But I have to say that I'm not sure how the show comes across to people who haven't seen it. You're either willing to appreciate it and take it in or your just not. That's not anything against you or someone else who doesn't like it, but it's off-beat material, ya know. Not everyone will like it.
CAROLINE is a near and dear show and for me, I can't listen to it without picturing it on stage. It was just gorgeous to look at. Seriously, I loved every minute of it and listening to the CD is purely an experience to relive that experience.
I wish you could have seen it ... Tonya Pinkins comes through excellent on CD, but boy did her charisma and stage presence overwhelm in the theatre. I saw it four time and cried each and every time she sang Lot's Wife. It was a devistating experience for her and the audience felt that.
Lay on the couch, put it on and listen to it all the way through and appreciate the music and then listen to it again and appreciate the book Tony Kushnier wrote.
Enjoy!
I really can't thank you all enough for the encouragement. Right now I'm at my boyfriend's and don't have the cd here, but as soon as I get home I plan on devoting a little more time to it. I am glad that you have steered me a little to how I should listen to it. THanks for the advice.

It's the richest, most extraordinary score I've ever heard. It's a shame you didn't get to see it. Truly the most powerful and well written musical I've seen in my years of attending the theatre.
