Was the Carnegie Hall concert version of Carousel featuring Hugh Jackman and Audra McDonald ever recorded?

I don't believe it was, unfortunately.

Thanks. I was thinking I would have heard about if it had been, but just wanted to double check. You're right, what a shame.

It wasn't commercially recorded, though I wouldn't be surprised if there were the usual copyright infringers out in the house.

It was such a beautiful concert - every performance beautifully sung. The music was the star of the evening, as evidenced by the lengthy ovation received by the "Carousel Waltz". It was also such a joy to see John Raitt onstage at this performance to introduce (and a lovely moment when he and Jackman embraced during the curtain call). Audra McDonald was very moving as Julie and got the most out of her two songs. (I remember the very long and passionate kiss she shared with Hugh at the end of the bench scene - and how the 14 year old girl seated to my left groaned in jealousy). Shame they didn't record it. I would have bought it in a heartbeat.

When I first heard about this concert, I sent an e-mail to someone in the Rodgers and Hammerstein organization. The response I got was that there were no plans to film the concert or record it for cd.

It really is a shame they didn't record it. I, too, would have most certainly bought a copy.

I've heard of a bootleg, but there's been no official recording.

Wasn't she in the Broadway company as well?

Cast of the concert:

Billy Bigelow - Hugh Jackman
Julie Jordan - Audra McDonald
Enoch Snow - Jason Danieley
Carrie Pipperidge - Lauren Ward
Nettie Fowler - Judy Kaye
Jigger Craigin - Norbert Leo Butz
Mrs. Mullin - Blythe Danner
The Starkeeper - Philip Bosco (who also was in "Kate & Leopold" with Hugh).

Here's the blurb about it in Playbill:

Holy crap, Fan2. Philip Bosco was Otis! After seeing him in Twelve Angry Men, the contrast is hysterical.

Yes Plum he was! I was going to put that in the message originally but didn't - glad you recognized the name! Kate & Leopold came out on Christmas, 2001 so this concert was after that (I think K&L was filmed in early 2001).

I also just found this in Playbill re Hugh - seems there was a chance he could not have done this.

>>>Jackman will be filming "X-Men 2" in June and his appearance in Carousel is dependent on his shooting schedule, Carnegie Hall cautioned. Updated On: 2/15/05 at 07:36 PM

I think he missed out on doing the Kennedy Center Company because he was filming something or other. Which is a damn shame, because I can think of few parts he's better-suited for than Bobby.

It seems "Company" was in the summer of 2002 - Hugh was filming X-Men 2 at that time. Bobby was played by John Barrowman.
