I am full of questions tonight. I think this is my third thread today.

How soon after Little Mermaid OBCR was recorded was it available to buy in the theatre? I know that you could buy it there before iTunes or other stores. Does this apply to all new shows? And do people ever buy the album from the theatre and re-sell them on Ebay? Thanks!

They are, for the most part, always available at the theatre before they are on itunes or in stores.

It's usually available in the theatre before widespread release. Little Mermaid was available in the theatre several weeks before its release (amazon release, that is). Most Recordings can be purchased earlier at the theatre, as a general rule.

How much earlier? Like weeks? Or months?

Thanks again.

Well when I went into the city on January 31st the recording for TLM was available at the theatre. It wasn't released until sometime in Feb. As I said above I believe (it varies for every show) that they are usually available a few weeks in advanced at the theatre.

I think the cast recording was available at the theatre at opening night and after.

That's the way it usually works. They are usually released at the Theatre before stores and iTunes, why, I'm not too sure.

So I think TLM was at the theatre maybe 3 or so weeks before it was released in-stores and such.

I don't think it was available at opening night or that soon thereafter. It probably took a couple of more weeks to get it there. Please note that very few shows record the cast album while in previews.

I think TLM was officially released in stores February 25th. It was probably available at the theatre a good 3-4 weeks prior, but I'm sure not by opening night.

I know that Xanadu's cast recording was available before the release date as well.

Cast recordings sold at the theatre are usually $20-25. If they were sold on ebay before the release date, they might cost more than that, plus shipping. Updated On: 3/24/08 at 12:16 AM

Yes, I do remember TLM was in the theater way before it was released in the stores. Remember the OPENING NIGHT date was pushed up because of the Strike and the recording had already been recorded by then.

Cast recordings are usually available at least a month before the general release date. Like someone else said, because of the strike, the TLM recording had been recorded long before the rescheduled opening night. I saw the show Jan. 15, and they were only taking pre-orders because they hadn't yet received the CDs. Also, I work for one of the Disney shows so I know that we received the CDs around Jan. 20th and they were sold at the theater at that point and was officially released Feb. 26. As for the selling of any cast recording on ebay, technically, doing so is against the law. Although that doesn't stop people from doing so, the selling of a cast recording by any individual or any store is illegal. I've rambled, sorry. Hope this helps!

I think the Young Frankenstein recording was at the theater 3 weeks before its release on Dec. 26, maybe a little less.

I was at TLM a few days after their Opening Night. It wasn't available yet... otherwise I would have picked it up!
