Posted: 6/4/06 at 2:55pmI have to disagree that the ensemble is not well-known. I recognized quite a few names.

Posted: 6/4/06 at 7:15pmi am so excited by this new cast, hopefully they will put on a better show than the awful one in the UK... the only saving grace for that show was the fantastic Gavin Lee, it's great that he is going to be Bert on broadway

I once saw Katherine Doherty. She played Gretl at...you guessed it...that theatre in Norwell in a production of The Sound of Music. She was amazing and I have no doubt she will be equally amazing as Jane in The Sound of Music. But God help her if she doesn't mention that production in her playbill bio.
I had the pleasure of seeing Gavin Lee in London. If he does not at least get nominated for a Tony when he gets to Broadway, I will be supremely pissed.

Not to sort of threadjack, but:
I expect the MARY POPPINS producers to petition to have Gavin Lee considered for the "Leading Actor in a Musical" category when it comes to Tony nominations. There are so few leading actors in musicals this upcoming season, that he has the best shot at a slot in that category.
Off the top of my head, the only "Leading Actors" we have this upcoming season are:
Jonathan Groff, SPRING AWAKENING
Raul Esparza, COMPANY
Alexander Gemignani, LES MISERABLES
And I suspect that the Tony nominating committee is going to want to completely shut out the LES MIS revival the best it can, good reviews or not, good cast or not, as a way to say, "you can't close, show back up three years later and expect award recognition".
Plus, if Gavin Lee is a Leading Actor, this gives Daniel Jenkins a better shot at a Featured Actor nomination.

Michael Arden will be Featured. FAME BECOMES ME will be deemed a Special Theatrical Event, therefore making Short ineligible for an acting nod.

Posted: 9/9/06 at 2:14pmAre there guidelines regarding theatrical event? One would think that a show with a director (Wittman), totally new score (Shaiman and Wittman), a brand new book (Short and Zweibel), and a lead actor (Short playing a fictional version of himself) would be eligible. It's not like Kiki and Herb.

Most definitely. Was Gavin Lee nominated as "featured actor" in Olivier Award?
Michael Arden will be in the featured category, if he gets a nomination, that is.

Posted: 9/9/06 at 8:03pmI have worked with Katherine Doherty many at the Wheelock Family Theater in Boston, MA. She was amazing as Gretel our production of The Sound of Music and she was also wonderful as Lottie in our musical production of A Little Princess. She has a sweet voice and great acting ability. I never heard of her doing a Norwell production, but she has done a lot of work in her young career. (If she doesn't mention the Wheelock Family Theater in her bio a lot of people will be hurt because the director was once of the reason that she heard about the auditions for Mary Poppins). We all wish Katherine lots of luck in her role and can't wait to go see her on Broadway

Posted: 9/11/06 at 2:21pmThere are a ton of shows opening, I think it's kind of hard to predict who will get what just yet. Surley not all of these shows will be hits and still be running by May.

Posted: 11/1/06 at 3:20pmYup, Katherine Doherty didn't mention that production of Sound of Music. She mentioned A production of Sound of Music but not that one. I saw the girl who played Marta in that production last weekend. We were ushering for To Kill A Mockingbird. Her sister was playing Scout. When I told her, she was pissed. I'm also friends with the girl who played Louisa. She'll be ultra-pissed.
