LOGLINE: A professor leaves his wife one night to meet someone from an
internet chat room.

[EDWARD DAGNEY] Mid 40s to early 50s; a small-town college professor
who uses the internet as an escape from an unfulfilling marriage. A
reserved man of few words whose actions are not always rational.
There is an air of sadness about him. Is resentful of a wife with
whom he can no longer communicate.

[RITA] Mid 40s to early 50s; Edward’s wife who medicates the void
between her husband and herself by taking Trazodone and watching
late night television. A smart, keenly observant woman who is much
more cognizant of her husband’s private life than she lets herself
appear.

[VIRGINIA] African-American female, mid 30s to early 40s; does vice
work for the local police department and hates her job; conservative,
has a moral integrity that some might consider self-righteous; a chain
smoker.

[HALL] male, late 30s to mid 40s; an insomniac who wanders into a
local diner one night to pass the time. Starting to paunch, not in
great shape.

[MULLIGAN] male, 30s; Hall’s friend; charismatic, has a vulgar sense
of humor, in strapping physical condition. Likes his ladies young and
his coffee black.

[STATE TROOPER] male, late 20s to 30s, white; a typical law enforcer.
Gets off on giving speeding citations to late night offenders. A
threatening and physically imposing presence. Has a terse way of
phrasing things.

[WAITRESS] 16-18, white; a hard-working high school student trying to
earn some extra cash at the local diner. A bombshell beauty.

[MARK and PAUL] 14-18, white; two athletic all-American teenagers.
Should be able to play basketball.

[GUITARIST] a Joe Pass wannabe; should be able to play classic guitar;
ability to sing a plus. Gender and age nonspecific.
