Casting for Chess Movie?

Ah yes, because Emmy Rossum is so well-known for her powerful belt.

(And I say this as a huge fan - her acting in Shameless is nearly unparalleled on television currently)

What Chess movie? There is no Chess movie. If you're having a Fantasyland moment, you should make that clear in your thread title.

Casting for Chess Movie?

this musical is one that i cherish but is unfortunately nowhere in the realm of possibility for adaptation as a film. if it were some kind of stage revival I'd like to see Alexandra Socha as Florence, i think she'd be terrific.

Casting for Chess Movie?

It's been my dream for 20 years to make a Chess movie. I originally thought Jon Bon Jovi as Freddie and Mandy Patinkin as Anatole, but now they're too old so I dunno.

Casting for Chess Movie?

I think Chess works great as a concert or a high-tech modern opera, but there's there's almost nothing really cinematic about it. Lots of standing and singing which is hard to make work on screen. The book written for Broadway is almost superfluous.

^ I agree, to an extent. There are some songs, like "Merano" and "Mountain Duet," that would work beautifully on-screen. But there are several gaps in my mental Chess movie, where I have no idea how it would work.

Casting for Chess Movie?

I remember having read a screenplay based on a combination of the Broadway version and the concept album several years ago. I thought it was actually quite good. I wish I could find it again; it was in a slush pile where I worked at the time.
