Posted: 3/1/05 at 1:21pmOkay, I'm really sorry for posting this, but my dad just asked me what Cats was like "content-wise" meaning language, sexual content, etc... I saw it once, and besides not really enjoying it, I don't remember the show at all. But a woman that works with my dad wants to take her boys. Though the boys aren't really young (I'd say 14 and 12 probably), they go to a Christian private school, etc. so, like, I'd never advocate them seeing, like "Rent" with their mother. Any thoughts? I seriously recall almost none of this show, besides not getting it and being bored (I was 11-ish).

Posted: 3/1/05 at 1:29pmThe show is completely G-rated. No bad language, no sex, nothing that would be considered offensive at all.

That's what I thought--I just didn't want to send them to it and be wrong... I mean, I used to babysit these kids, and then I'd feel horrible.
Thanks!

Posted: 3/1/05 at 1:31pmThere is the issue of kitty heaven and being reborn as another Jellicle cat that might need some explaining.

Other than the fact that Grizabella is a hooker-cat, there shouldn't be a problem. Also Rum Tum Tugger thrusts his pelvis a couple of times.
Seriously though, the lyrics are T.S. Eliot's book "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats". If she has any issues, she could read the poems before going.

I watched Rent when I was 13 too, and it was awkward to watch with my dad and all, but I handled it fine. It's this particular family that I wouldn't recommend Rent to. I mean, they're great, but the mom's a little protective. I think the question is not so much the age as the situation.
Thanks everyone!

Posted: 3/1/05 at 1:45pmCould it be the explicit sexual content and lyrics, coupled with drug use and poverty? I dont know, some Christians might have a problem with that..

While I agree and know many people like this, have you ever stopped to read the Bible? Everything I learned about explicit sex, drug use and poverty, I learned from the Bible.

Posted: 3/1/05 at 2:16pmI think I would have handled seeing rent perfectly fine on my own...it was my dad being there that made me feel weird, since it was very obvious that he was not enjoying it, nor did he approve of it.

Posted: 3/1/05 at 2:28pmIn contrast, it's possible my dad enjoyed Rent even more than I did (I don't think I fully appreciated it until I saw it a second time and understood more of what was going on.) All in all, 100 times less awkward than seeing "Take Me Out" with him.
