Thanks, PalJoey. The original ending Robbins had in place is what I always have known the ending to be and what it should be. So did Arthur basically just end it with everyone standing on stage as Tony just laid there dead?

Pretty much.

The only time I was wowed during that revival was during "Dance at the Gym" when I saw Pamela Otterson, who played Graziella, blaze onto the stage and let it rip. Of course, that's opposite effect of what "Dance at the Gym" is supposed to be. You're supposed to not take your eyes off of Anita. But while Anita was twirling, Graziella was lighting a fire.
