The buzz on Victoria is good...very good. I would selfishyly love to see Charlotte take the Tony, Drama Desk or Outer Critics Circle award for Sweet Charity. It's about time she was recognized.

Victoria is basically a lock: she is an industry favorite and Margaret is a big, showy role. Charlotte is very deserving of recognition, though.

WOAH! Victoria is basically a LOCK?!?! Me thinks NOT!
I agree Sherrie is good in DRS, and will get a nom but wont win...but to rule out SUTTON FOSTER right now in anyway, shape, or form is a little premature.
As we all know ANYTHING can happen. (hell, if someone at that crap shot that is Good Vibrations decided to place KATE REINDERS in the lead category, she could grab a nom, they ONLY thing to get a decent reveiw from that show, but most certainly not a win)

Will Spamalot put Sara Ramirez up for Lead or Supporting? I think she'll be a factor.

Sutton has a lot of absences under her belt that could really work against her.
Sara is supporting.

Christina Applegate is the entire reason the SWEET CHARITY revival happened. They're is no way they'd deny her the role and give her the 239th replacement ROXIE title as a consolation prize.
If she's unable to open the show, then obviously Charlotte D'Amboise will have a shot at a nomination and a win -- but it sounds like The New York Times, along with the other media have been a tad premature in interpreting Barry Weissler's comments about D'Amboise permenently taking over the run.
Sunday -- Christina was out temporarily
Monday -- Christina was out for good
Wednesday -- Christina vows she'll make good on opening night.
It will be interesting to see what happens next, but if Applegate is able to open the show -- its going to be a major, major publicity triumph -- and that could generate the kind of buzz that could get her the Tony, deserved or not.

Do your homework. Three other actresses were in talks to play Charity before Ms. Applegate's name was even mentioned.

Um -- I've done my homework dear....And three other actresses departed the show during the workshop process. Fact remains -- if Applegate hadn't signed the contract, this production never would have materialized when it did.

If Ms. Applegate is not in the Opening Night Performance, she is not eligible for a Tony nomination...

That's not 100 percent true. Weissler could petition for Applegate to be considered if she joined the show relatively quickly after opening night (say the first two weeks). It would be a gamble -- as they could always say no -- but there is precedence - Dean Jones left COMPANY after a brief run and his replacement received a Tony nom.

Larry Kert began one night after the opening. The way they were talking you would think that Christina would be back in the summer, if she ever returns at all.

I think they should let Applegate host the Tonys as a consolation prize? Anyone want to start a petition?
PEACE.

Eek -- sorry to be arguing with you some much today Melissa but that's not quite right...
The show opened on Sunday, April 26, 1970 and on May 29, Larry Kert assumed the role of Bobby

Really? I'm surprised. My Theatre World 1970 book says that Mr. Jones left after 1 performance.

To say that Victoria Clark is a lock and has it in the bag is very pretentious. Most people on here haven't even seen it yet, come on. It's still a fair race - although this is an unusually weak year for leading actresses. Last year, the word was that Tonya Pinkins had it in the bag - and look what happened.
