Did they gut the whole entire show of it's "inappropriate context"?! I would love to see a school edition.

They certainly didn't cut the inappropriate content for the school edition of Les Miserables, so I doubt Rent would be TOOO wildly different. But there are a few things I can imagine they would have to get rid of...

Instead of recording "Leap of Faith" there were 3 girls singing/performing it behind Joanne
There was a preacher/priest/minister at Angel's funeral and she was wearing a rainbow flag. Metropolitan Community Church? LOL (That's New York's main gay church, for those of you who don't know)
All Christmas Bells people were girls who couldn't sing and were constantly drowned out by the orchestra
Everyone was white except Seasons of Love Soloist, Benny, and Collins
Mark looked Puerto Rican, but in the programme, it said his surname was Kaufmann, so obviously Jewish

Were you in the production? I guess they opted for color-blind casting. Or maybe they didn't have the ethnic background in the group/school?

Yeah, my school's theatre department is pretty much all-white, with maybe one or two Asian-ish people. We were thinking of putting on "Hairspray," but that obviously wouldn't work. But at my middle school, we did a show where there were twins of different races, and a mother whose race was different from either of theirs.

No!!!!!! I wasn't in it! Considering I'm 23 years old and this high school was in Maryland and I'm only living here for the next 5 days! 3 of my cousins go to that school though (2 maternally, 1 paternally. The one on my father's side did lights and 1 on my mother's side saw it, and I met her there).
