Hi Rob,
Guess what I can't do. Three guesses, first two don't count. :)
So what am I doing wrong? I'm not on dial up this time around, I'm on a cable modem. I tried both ways–Flash and HTML. I even shut the whole computer down and restarted, then tired again, no luck. I tried without the email address and with it. No soap.
Many humble thanks, O Most Kind Webmaster, for any help. I know I’m your worst nightmare but I R puter lit. I know how to turn it on--It's the making it DO anything after that step that I seem to find hard. :)

Is it just hanging or what? Details please!

I just signed onto the board, I went to the chat area and hit "Flash", a completely white screen came up with "done" in the left hand corner. I hit the back button and hit the HTML button, got a white screen with "done" in the left hand corner.
I tried to type "hello" in both places but saw nothing.
Forgive me, Rob, but what the heck does "Flash" and "HTML" mean anyway?? I've seen them on other boards and I just pick one at random and it either works or it don't--I have no clue as to which one I should pick or why.
I don't know if this info will help you or not but here goes
HP Pavillion 514 N is the computer (aka junk)
Road Runner cable service
Toshiba modem--don't ask me what model-I don't know. It's the one the cable guy brought.
Windows XP Home version (Don't ask what I think of it. I want to go back to Windows ME so my programs will work again but the darn thing is worse than an octopus--As I found out, you can't even reformat the hard drive from DOS--The darn thing won't let you!) Just a FYI--I have had to reformate my hard drive (using XP at least 7 times since I got this computer in January) Do you need to know which version?
Windows Explorer Version 6.0.2800
If you need to know anything else, just ask.
Many thanks once again.

Well, the good / bad news is that you're one of two people that reported this, but there's also been several successful logins. Hmmn... What version of Internet Explorer are you using? (Help, About Internet Explorer). Let me see if I can figure out what the two of you have in common and go from there.

6.02800.1106.XPSP1.020828-1920 That is what it said next to version. I didn't know how much of that number you need so I gave you the whole thing.
It also said:
Cipher Strength: 128- bit
Does that help any?
Do you need any other info?
Thanks,

I got your 2nd e-mail last night (thank you for much for being so prompt!) but it was so late, I thought I'd just wait until today to try to do what it said.
I swear to you that all I was doing was listen to my music and a little web surfing--I didn't download anything. Anyway, I signed off the net then decided to have one last look at Broadway.com and couldn't get back on the net!
I re-booted. Then the computer started messing up big time--I wanted to go into system restore and try to go back a couple days so it would reset itself before trying to reformat the hard for about 8th time but it wouldn't even open it!
As of this writing, I just reformated the entire hard drive (again) and I just got back on the net. I haven't reset my email account up yet--that's next. For kicks and giggles I thought I'd give the chatroom and a try---Guess what--it works! I don't know for how long or even why it works now for that matter but thanks for all your hard work in trying to help.
Anyway the problem is solved (for the moment). Thanks again. Sorry for rambling on but maybe this will help someone else who is having problems with their HP/XP Home Version.
