Not that "Annie" is cheesey (although some may disagree), but has anyone who has ever done the show or seen it find this very odd.

In ACT 2 , twords the end, when Warbuck is going to adopt Annie and arranges for a party with the help, Warbuck asks what needs to be done. Grace says "Cheese..we need to have cheese! You know..cheese".

Talk about random.

Anyone else notice this or know why it's written like this? I mean if she said "Mocachinos...we need Mochachinos" I could understand.

I played Drake recently. This line occurs after Drake skips offstage.

After Grace said that line, she skipped offstage too, and I re-entered, we both turned to the audience, jumped up and said "CHEESE!" and exited.

Also, during the "Annie" song, Grace sings "Have they sent the cheese?" and Drake responds "Yes, and ice! Camambert and Bries"

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

The cheese story:
Grace used to have a ballad she sang at the top of the scene in the second
act of ANNIE after the white house....a pretty soft rock tune about "he
doesn't know I'm alive and I love him (Warbucks)" sort of thing. She
nibbled on cheese during the song...why? Who knows!
So that's why the two references.

Oh gawd..that's hysterical!

Do you think it ever occured to Meehan that these lines might just sound a bit odd without the "cheese" song? They certainly stick out as weird and off the wall..something Annie is not!

I did Bert Healy role in Dinner Theater....fun show, real cheezy, but hey, I got paid to sing and dance, so WOO HOO.

We never understood the cheese line either.

Is this true? This has got to be one weird thing to throw into a show like "Annie".

Being cheesy is one thing...

I thought the movie was wierd because of the ending. I didn't like how it turned into an action movie.

I played Warbucks in a summer tour of the show and hated every minute of it--cheese and all.

what kind of cheese goes best with Annie? Would one do a Stilton or maybe an Idiazabal. maybe a soft cheese would be best? A Brie or a Camambert
