Chess recording?

"I hope the new Broadway production cuts down some of the recitative and puts in one of the new songs from the Swedish production, or perhaps a new one altogether. The end was never quite right, unless it was the complete "Story of Chess". Bennett had it right, as always... "

Bennett was going to use an abridged Story of Chess. I have every faith he woulda made the show work, but I know Avian said he was baffled y a lot of it and I suspect some of the authors wouldn't have liked that he reconceived its main theme not to be east/west relations or anything like that but how the media manipulates things.

The bootleg is gritty and I had it before the cd was released.

Yes, but the authors were pretty hands-off. Rice was too busy carrying on with his mistress (aka the star of the show) and B&B more concerned with the orchestrations than anything, or the rest of the show.

Nunn pretty much had carte blanche when he came in, and what he put up on stage was maybe 10% of what Bennett had envisioned, but basically a show almost drowning in its set.

I would kill to see Bennett's notes and hear what his plan of action was. "The Story of Chess", "The Arbiter"/"Merchendiser's Song" and the "Mountain Duet" (and most of "One Night In Bangkok") were apparently the only things he staged fully before he left to die in Arizona, no?

In Re: the other recording:
And it's better than the final CD.

At least "Nobody's Side" is. I can't quite figure out why they used the version from the 2nd night on DVD/CD.
