Went to the windy city this weekend and caught both "Urinetown" and "Wicked" and thought I'd share my thoughts on both.

"Urinetown"-What a great show! The Chicago cast is full of energy and exuberence and the Mercury Theatre is the perfect venue for the show. Michael Buchanan is great as Bobby. His "Run, Freedom, Run" in Act II stopped the show. The ensemble was also great in this number. Christine Sherrill made a memorable Miss Pennywise. Jon Frazier as Officer Lockstock and Roni Geva as Little Sally turned in great performances as well. If you're in Chicago, see this show!

"Wicked"--This was my sixth time seeing the show and I'm happy to report the Chicago company is in fine shape. I caught the touring company in Cincy two weeks ago (Julia was out)and was very disappointed. The current Chicago company made me fall in love with the show all over again. First off, Kristy Cates is a fabulous Elphaba. Her acting is superb and her vocals were astounding. I've seen both Ana and Stepanie do the role, and Kristy is right up there with them! Sarah Jane Everman was on as Glinda and I couldn't have been more pleased. For my money, Everman is the best Glinda I've seen so far! Rondi as Morrible has really grown in the part since I saw her last summer, though I wished she would sing more. She really has a pleasant singing voice. Anyone with tickets to see the Chicago company won't be disappointed!
