""The food in England is getting better btw. You just need to know where to go"
Yeah. France or Italy!"
Oh it's a pity that I'm not ignorant enough to think all that people in the US eat is burgers, hotdogs, bbq ribs, grits, meat loaf and scrapple or I could really go to town.
And isn't Irish cuisine just white pudding, colcannon and guinness?
"I didnt say I was an expert on Irish Overtures. I said this particular one does NOT sound like TRUE Irish music. It sounds like that Riverdance crap people have been taught to think is Irish music.
You're Irish? How much?"
Father is Irish. He was born and raised in the Wicklow Mountains and his family pretty much raised me. My mother is Scottish. So I'm 50/50. Like I said, I was brainwashed with Irish culture and was exposed to a lot of Irish music. still have close friends from the north and the south. I'm no expert on Irish music either as I can't really stand Irish music as a rule.
However, what you hear in the Pirate Queen is CLOSE ENOUGH to at least one variety of Irish music to not deserve an attack. Certainly no worse than the ropey English accents on show anyway.
You just get a bit sick of people with a drop of Irish blood thinking they're an authority on all things Irish.

"All of those shows suck."
Excuse me laddie, but did I hear you say that Miss Saigon "sucks"?
Would ya care to rephrase that remark?
It's a matter of opinion of course, but if so Miss Saigon sucked for 10 years on Broadway and two national tours, and it sucked throughout Europe and Asia in numerous productions. It still sucks in countless regional productions, and its sucky CDs and sheet music still sell lots and lots of copies.
All I want from a musical is for it to tell me a story I care about, show me something interesting on stage, give me a few memorable songs and keep lots of actors, techs and musicians working for many years. We can only cross our fingers and hope that somehow the folks who gave us the mess that Pirate Queen now is can find some way to fix it up enough to suck like Miss Saigon did.
I can't argue with you about Aida though.

I may disagree with you that PQ is as big a mess as all that...but this made me laaaaaugh.
I do buy that there's a heavy English influence over the versions of Irish and Scottish history/culture we get, blast it--because they conquered Scotland (grr!) and parts of Ireland and stamped out many of the rich traditions they found threatening. BUT! Given that a good chunk of the creative team (including both producers, right?) and some of the actors are Irish, I think they'll do their level best not let things deteriorate into Mike Meyers "If it's no Scottish, it's crap" inanity.
