Kate's voice is very expressive but I kind of wish I could see Paolo's performance. This Lady Thiang feels more comedic than Ruthie.
That key of "Hello Young Lovers" was fantastic.

That "Hello, Young Lovers" was just marvelous. I love the depth and variety she's capable of. It's not all in the same place. There are delicate notes and notes that ring out and a wonderful difference in quality between the high and low notes.
The kids didn't sound like they were getting much of a reaction until the end.

What happened to Paolo Montalban's beautiful voice? Maybe this doesn't sit in the best part of his range? Right now best vocals for me go to Hoon Lee and best performance is Ken Watanabe.
I really liked her "Hello Young Lovers". I am partial to Kelli's phrasing/swing of "Ive been in love like you""I've had a love of my own".
Kate is so stoic as Anna. I'm in love with her interpretation.

I know this is a recording of last night's performance. Even though it probably won't be made widely available I'm still glad a somewhat professional recording of these beautiful vocals exists somewhere. She's really one of those singers who could sing the phone book and make it compelling.

Paolo and Kate were very good in that confrontation scene.
Ali's voice is so beautiful.

This Lun Tha sounds pretty good. I still haven't heard one who can match that classic leading man sound of older musicals... those rich, buttery vocals.
They sound very good together. So well cast.
This is my absolute favorite song.

I think I prefer Kate's fiery performance of this song to Kelli's. Also, because it reminds me of Giant. :)

It sounds like this Lady Thiang is going for some kind of character voice/accent but I prefer Ruthie's just gorgeous rendition of this song.
She certainly is playing up the comedy, though.

By the way, the chorus/ensemble sounds really good.
Are they about to start chattering through intermission?

I walked away and now they're playing Ol' Man River... ? This radio station is bonkers.
I suppose they don't know their core audience. I'm very well versed in R&H, I know all of this already.

You know who I probably would have liked as Lun Tha? James Shigeta.
Oh, good. More plot summary.
I am loving Kate's voice in this. Ali Ewoldt's rendition of My Lord and Master, gave me chills.

Now that I really think about it, I think there's a version of this show where Lun Tha and Tuptim's relationship is played up much more and the king is much less sympathetic. Am I going crazy or did they cut the dialogue from the Lincoln Center production where the king talks to Kralahome about Tuptim not really being into his... amorous advances? Or was that added for the LC show?
