Childhood Inspirations

As a little kid, I wanted to be Hayley Mills. I thought that I could have played all those roles just as well, like 'Pollyanna' and 'Parent Trap', and I loved acting out and trying to be like her, running around the house practicing my British accent... My twin sister and I used to perform "Let's Get Together" ALL the time. LOL
Then, as I grew older, other people who have really influenced me included Maureen O'Hara (who, btw, played the mom in 'Parent Trap'), Deborah Kerr (who's ana amzing actress), and, most of all, Miss Barbra Streisand. I can't sing, so I relate more to her as an actress/director/writer/producer. As a teenager, whenever I was asked what my dream was, I would answer: "To write, produce, direct and act in a movie. Just like Barbra." :)

Posted: 1/1/04 at 1:14amWell, even though I'm still living out my "childhood" years, I would have to say that Bernadette Peters is my biggest inspiration. She never has tried to be like anyone else at all, like so many other stars have, and she has amazing talent.

Posted: 1/1/04 at 10:16ami am still kinda young (teenager) so i'll go with my current inspirations: Sutton Foster and Linda Eder. And also when i was 4 i watched the video of Bernadette's "Into the Woods" pretty much every day so i was inspired by her too.

Posted: 1/1/04 at 8:39pmMadeline Kahn was a major inspiration for me. She was funny and beautiful and had an incredible voice, and I always admired her work in films and onstage. Betty Buckley in "Cats" and Laurie Beechman in "Joseph..." were also role models.

Posted: 1/1/04 at 9:04pmThe first time I knew I wanted to be in the theatre was when I saw Cats when I was about 3. After that some major influences were Grease (the movie), Les Mis, Andrew Lloyd Webber's works, Rocky Horror (which I've been fantatical about since I was 10)and performer wise, of course, Patti Lupone

Posted: 1/2/04 at 10:29amI used to hold concerts in my bedroom for my parents and little brother and I also remember singing along to The Little Mermaid all the time. But the inspiration that really stands out for me is Les Miserables. I was 10 when I first saw it and it had a huge impact on me. I used to put on a bathrobe and smudge my face with pencil lead so I could be Eponine. I'd put on the CSR and act out the whole thing--my closet door was stage left, the door to my bathroom was stage right, and my bunk bed was the barricade. What can I say--I was a strange child. :)
"Shut up! It's been 29 years!!!" --the incomparable Patti LuPone in her MUCH DESERVED Tony acceptance speech for Gypsy.

Posted: 1/2/04 at 12:34pmI definatley have to go with Judy Garland in good 'ole Wizard of Oz-I can't possibly count the number of times I've seen that movie. I would also have to go with Julie Andrews, Shirley Temple, and Shirley Jones. Other than Wizard of Oz, Oklahoma was the first movie/musical I saw and fell in love with Shirley Jones.

Posted: 1/2/04 at 11:57pmHmm since I am only 13 I still have role models and inspirations! I would have to say Idina Menzel, one because I have known her for a long time and she has always been a good mentour, Kristin Chenoweth because again she is an amazing performer and a mentour and friend, and finally Felicia Finley because I have known her since I was little and she is the best ever!
