Yeah, I just saw it on tdf. Btw, does anyone on this board know of anyone who actually liked or loved this play? Just curious. Thinking, even 41.00 is waaay too much, unless one enjoys looking at a train wreck once in a blue moon
$ 41 for a trainwreck ain't bad especially for an epic one like this
You than have the satisfaction of having paid $ 41 whereas the people around you paid thru the nose.

I'm one of the few on this board who enjoyed China Doll. I'm a big fan of Mamet's "classic" works and I thought this was not as good, but certainly evocative of his recurring themes in his better works. I didn't take as much offense to the plot (or plotlessness, as some level against it) and thought Pacino was entertaining doing his shtick. I would says it's worth the $41 just to experience this now-infamous production for yourself, if you can swing the money.
Yeah, it s always fun, 20 yrs later, to "brag"!? That you saw the most hideous show ever, right!
. And I ve seen quite a number of 1 wk, or 1 day wonders. Except in those days, the tix for previews were like 10-15.00, and nobody really wanted to see previews.
I had never seen a Mamet play before this one, and, because I had loved the script to "The Anarchist", which most people had hated, I thought I would give this one a try. I disliked this play when I saw it, people drifting in and out - some actually sleeping. However, I recently bought the published script and read it, and I have to say - the play isn't really bad. Actually, on the page, the play reads very well: the plot makes sense, the characters are intriguing, ect. Mamet does shoulder some of the blame (not really changing anything during previews), but a bulk of it lies on Pachino, whose awful delivery kills Mamet's rhythms and makes the plot nonsensical. Maybe if he could actually remember his lines, people wouldn't have torn it apart.
We will never know.
I liked the play a lot more than I thought I would. I didn't love it, though.
Tickets are now listed as limited .
I loved Mamet s screenplays, The Edge, and esp. House of Cards.

There are two things people don't care about. David Mamet and Al Pacino doing their patented and reheated David Mamet and Al Pacino things.
